I worked offshore oil for 30 years. The shallow blow-out was our worst nightmare. With all of the gas around the platform, nothing floats. You would simply sink to the bottom. No hope of rescue. The rig is eventually swallowed up by Momma nature.

I seen a well in Saskatchewan blow out while we were doing a flow check . Everyone was smoking by the mixing shack I was the only one on rig floor. It shot up to the top of the derick and when we diverted to the degasser and flare stuck the whole flare tank lit up on fire because the stack wasn't installed properly. All in all it was a fun shift

Dude deep water horizon it literally the worst oil rig blowout in history none of those compare to the deep water horizon none

I used to work for a oil field service company where we did a lot of stuff Mainly flow back and production testing. After drill rigs come in and do their thing usually they frac and wire line. We would come in during these stages to help with water circulation. Then usually a coil drill out rig would set up and we would circulate for them as well. After that we set up our equipment which consisted of a separator designed to separate water, oil, and gas, sand can, flock tanks, tank batteries, manifolds and a flare. When we are circulating things we usually have to burn off the gas through a flare into the atmosphere. Some of these wells were 2500-3000 psi. So the flare would often be ripping. And if it was more then one well we used one flare sometimes that flare was taller then the tank batteries 25’-30’ tall flare that sounds like a jet engine. You can’t even stand next to it it’s so hot. Anyways with the separator if you let levels get out of wack you can send oil to that flare which can be bad right not only are you coating everything in a layer of oil but it potentially can catch on fire and often does. You would be surprised how often oil gets sent to atmosphere.😊

Drilling fluid is the most important part of a drilling operation. Unbalanced formation pressures will cause an unexpected influx (also known as a kick) of formation fluids in the well, possibly leading to a blowout from pressured formation fluids. If formation pressure is greater than the hydrostatic pressure, it can cause a kick. A kick is an unscheduled, unwanted entry of gas, oil, or water into the wellbore. Drilling fluids are specially designed to minimize damage and maximize production of exposed zones within the well in the following ways: Removes cuttings from the well; suspends cuttings; controls formation pressure; maintains well stability; minimizes well damage; transmits hydraulic energy to downhole tools and bit; controls tubular and casing corrosion; cools, lubricates, and cleans the bit and drilling assembly; facilitates cement and completion of the well.

The #1 far out view and drilling floor are different blowouts. The far out video shows the pipe being thrown out of the hole. While the drilling floor video still shows that the pipe is still in the hole.
