Great video, We are thinking of going to Kardamena in September, As my wife suffers with Trigeminal Neuralgia I was hoping if you could tell me if it gets very windy on Kos which would be no good at all for her or is it a really calm wind free island.
@GoExploreGreece
@GoExploreGreece 3 күн бұрын
Hi Mark, and thanks for the comment. As Kos is an island and with Kardamena being on the coast, it would certainly have wind. But, as to how much would not be suitable for your wife I have absolutely no idea. This coupled with the fact I'm not a medical practitioner, I can't really say or give advice. Sory I can't be of any help.

Hi Mark. To be he honest I think "windy" is a subjective term 👍 But, it's not as windy as Rhodes or the north coast of Crete. However, I do understand this really doesn't answer your question. After looking on the internet, I've found a few sites which go into a lot of detail of daily/weekly/monthly etc wind measurements on the island which would give you a historic picture over the years. Give them a go and hopefully this will help a lot more than I can with my vague answers. 👍

Richard, I'm so glad you liked the video. To answer your question...about 30 - 40 minutes. There's other walking tours you may find interesting as well, and since you are going at the busiest time and only have two nights, may I suggest you check out the the video: New system for Acropolis tickets at kzbin.info/www/bejne/poKwe2aheLyprdk - because there are now limits on the number who can see this not only for the day, but also every hour. So, you may want to book before you go because this guarantees you have a place. But I was also go as early in the morning as possible to avoid closure due to heat. Thanks again, and if you have any questions, just let me know.

Im watching the Athens: Evening Walking Tour in 4K now. Will definitely go to Attica to try those pies. We will try to get more in on the Athens Happy Train to go to the Panathenaic stadium instead of us walking. By the way, our hotel is Athens Gate Hotel. I believe is pretty close to the stadium and the temple of Olympian Zeus. Do you suggest to go to the South Entrance of the Parthenon? I'm just concern that we will not see the Propylaea and the Temple of Athen Nike first?. Like we will start from the back to front?
@GoExploreGreece
@GoExploreGreece 5 күн бұрын
Go from the entrance which is opposite the Acropolis Museum. That way you'll get to see Theatre of Dionysus, then Odeon of Heroes Atticus, then make you way up and through the Propylaea. As you come out you will see the Parthenon. Turn right before you walk to it and at the end is the Temple.of Athena Nike. Don't forget the Erechtheion with Caryatids (statues), and.for best photos of the front of the Parthenon, go to the opposite side when you first see it as there's no scaffolding. Also, don't forget to look over the walls as there's spectacular views. Go to the point where you see the Greek flag on the pole.

Filmed very early on the 30th May 2024, join me on a beach walk along the stunning Lindos Beach on the Greek island of Rhodes Greece. It’s sunrise, around 7am and I’m the only person there, so come and walk with me. The island of Rhodes Greece is one of the most popular and picturesque Greek islands, located in the southeastern Aegean Sea. It is renowned for its rich history, stunning landscapes, and crystal-clear waters. Rhodes, also known as Rhodos is a destination that offers something for everyone, from ancient ruins to lively nightlife, making it a must-visit on your Greece travel adventure. Lindos, a charming town on the east coast of Rhodes, is home to the famous Lindos Acropolis Rhodes Greece. This ancient citadel sits atop a hill, providing breathtaking views of the surrounding area, including Lindos Beach. To get to Lindos, you can either drive, take a taxi, or use public transportation from Rhodes Town. The journey is about an hour by car, offering scenic views of the island along the way. Lindos Beach is a true gem among the beaches of Rhodes Greece. It boasts golden sand and shallow, crystal-clear waters, making it perfect for families with children. The gentle waves and the gradual slope of the sea make it a safe and enjoyable spot for kids to swim and play. The beach is also a haven for those who enjoy watersports, offering activities such as paddleboarding, jet skiing, and banana boat rides. Enjoy the video Ian

People take note of those videos as yesterday I came back from Athens and on Saturday I was pickpocketed on the metro going to the zoo. I had a taxi from the airport due to these warnings so the only time I used the metro was this trip and got targeted by these vermin. It was the oh no the door is jammed bs so I warned everybody as a guy was telling me to press a door button but it was why me there are 3 closer, so my brain said scam so I shouted this out and moved away from the door. There was a thud in front of me which was my wallet while 3 40 to 50 year old men got off the Metro. So I picked up my wallet thinking they took the cash out and chased them and confronted them then realised they hadn’t taken my money out but with the Metro there was no staff or police around so this is just rife.

As you approach the island, the imposing presence of the Nisyros volcano dominates the landscape, hinting at the volcanic activity that shaped this unique environment. Nisyros island is an active volcano in the Aegean Volcanic Arc, which includes other well-known active volcanoes such as Santorini and Methana. The Nisyros volcano is classified as a composite volcano or stratovolcano, characterized by a series of explosive eruptions that have built up layers of hardened lava, tephra, pumice, and volcanic ash over time. The Stefanos Crater is one of the largest and most accessible hydrothermal craters in the world. This crater was formed approximately 3,500 years ago and is a testament to the island's volcanic activity. Measuring about 300 meters in diameter and 30 meters deep, it offers a unique opportunity to walk directly on the floor of an active volcano. *Amazing Facts* Size and Dimensions: The Stefanos Crater spans a massive 300 meters across and plunges to around 30 meters. This vast, open space allows visitors to fully appreciate the scale and power of volcanic activity. The crater is relatively young, having formed around 3,500 years ago. Despite its age, it remains a vivid and dynamic part of the island's landscape. Due to the intense geothermal activity below the surface, the ground within the crater can reach temperatures of up to 100°C (212°F). Numerous fumeroles, or steam vents, are scattered throughout the crater that release hot gases from the Earth's interior. These fumaroles are a clear sign of the live volcano beneath your feet.

What I do myself is keep everything valuable, like money, cellphone, credit card, passport, driver's license etc, only and exclusively in the two front pockets of my trousers, or the inner pocket of my jacket, if it's wintertime. Never put money and valuables in back pockets, handbags, or backpacks. Your idea to wear the backpack on the front is great, but I would still keep money, cellphone, credit card, and identification in my trousers or in my jacket. Other things like chargers, sunglasses, cameras could be kept in a backpack, because they are valuable, but losing them wouldn't destroy your vacation. And even them not in the front pocket of the backpack, but inside.

Thank you so much for the brilliant advice. It certainly shows that one solution doesn't necessarily fit everyone. I did think about expanding the video to cover a lot more, but it would have ended up at least three times as long and still not cover everything. The Metropolitan Cathedral is a really nice, well constructed/well decorated church. However, since this essentially is the seat of Orthodox Christianity in Greece, it should be a much bigger, grander cathedral in my opinion, given that other Orthodox churches like Russia, Serbia etc., have much larger cathedrals serving as their main church. The Romanian Orthodox church for example is currently building something that resembles the Vatican.

Thank you for your insightful comment. The Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens is indeed a beautiful and historic church, known for its architectural elegance and intricate decorations. While it may not be as large as some of the grand cathedrals in other Orthodox countries, it holds significant cultural and historical value for Greece. However, I do see your point that because it's considered the seat of Orthodox Christianity in Greece, it should be a much bigger, grander cathedral. I'm not entirely sure why it's not larger. Maybe it was because of the limited land it was going to be built upon, or maybe there were time limits to construct, or perhaps the people at that time didn't see a larger one as a necessary requirement. But, I still love to seek solace inside from the hustle and bustle of Athens. Ian

@@GoExploreGreece I think the reason they never built a grand cathedral to answer your question, is because the underlying sentiment for a couple hundred years among us as Greek people was that one day we'd return to Constantinople (many refuse to still use the name Istanbul) and reclaim Hagia Sophia. But in light of that being a virtual impossibility due to modern geo-politics and in light of other Orthodox countries building massive cathedrals, I think building something large and grand is a possibility the Greek Orthodox church should consider.

That's extremely interesting what you say. Perhaps one day the people of Greece will, as it's certainly an opportunity to consider. You've definitely provided me with a few things to think about.

Yes, you are right, and I'm sorry about that. I did have two of my favourites but unfortunately I did not realise that I'd deleted them by mistake when I was finishing edit the video. It wasn't until last week that I'd actually noticed. I do pass two of the best Souvlaki, but again I didn't stop to showcase them, I only showed them. I'm really sorry about that.

Wow it’s outstanding views. I have a question about flying drone on Zakynthos. Do you have to report every flight and can you 5:18 higher than 50meters without any problems? I read rules on HCAA but want to know how it’s looks like in practice. Thank you.

Great question. The simple answer is: The basic drone laws for flying state that a maximum flight altitude of 120 metres, always flying within visual line of sight and keeping the drone away from no-fly zones and anyone not involved in the flying of the drone. You don't have to report every flight, but just use common sense, and DO NOT fly anywhere near and/or over military, utilities etc. A little more info: For most drones, you need the EU Drone Licence. This consists of the Basic Certificate (A1-A3) and the Supplementary Certificate (A2). - Mandatory for drones from 250 grams - The drone may fly a maximum height of 120 metres - The drone must be flown within direct sight of the pilots - You must register yourself as a drone pilot - You have to attach an operator number to your drone Hope this helps. Time wise how long a walk from start to harbour please.
@GoExploreGreece
@GoExploreGreece 3 ай бұрын
The full walk would take 15-20 minutes at a gentle pace. However, there is a concrete structure near the top end blocking the way. The sea is not too deep at this point so you could easily pass by walking in the water. Or you could walk up through the village and rejoin the other side which will add another 10-15 minutes. In 2022 there was a wooden platform which allowed you to pass above the water line but it wasn't there last year (2023). Hope this helps.

Hello, does the vanilla ticket also include the 15 minutes early to 15 minutes later than the time slot chosen or is that just for the combo ticket? Do you need to reserve times for the other attractions in the combo ticket or just show up? Cheers
@GoExploreGreece
@GoExploreGreece 3 ай бұрын
Those are good questions, and the answer is yes, there is indeed a single "vanilla" ticket which allows you to select the time of entry and permits you to enter up to 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after your time slot. It's one that I use when I only have a day or so in Athens, and it's right here: bit.ly/3U3xoa2 As for your question regarding reserving times for other attractions, there isn't an option as they get nowhere near as busy or as quickly as the Acropolis. However, that's not the case for the Acropolis Museum, which is essentially the second most popular after the Acropolis. Plans are being considered to book a time slot, but it's not likely to happen this year. But, from experience, I would still recommend you get a ticket in advance, including various skip-the-line. These are at bit.ly/49QP4vE Hope this helps Ian

Hello, was wondering if you knew how to book reservations for the other combo sites, if we already have booked a reservation for the Acropolis using the Combo ticket. There doesn't seem to be a way to book a reservation for any of the other sites, once you have purchased the 5-day ticket. Thanks!

For the first time, there's now limits on the number of people who can visit the Acropolis of Athens every day and every hour. I'll explain why, and how you can get around these limits of 20,000 for the day, 3,000 for the first hour, and then 2000 every hour until closing. Whilst 20,000 per day or 2,000 an hour may sound like a lot, the number of people seeing the Acropolis daily has significantly increased over the last five years. 2022 saw 3 million hit for the very first time. And last year, there was a 70% increase from 2021. *ALL Tickets for the Acropolis* All Tickets - bit.ly/4azYmgt *Combination Tickets* Acropolis & Archaeological Sites: Combo - bit.ly/3xvdNYL The Athens Pass - bit.ly/3vKz5RT Acropolis and Acropolis Museum - bit.ly/3VYh8tC *Guided Tours* Acropolis Entry and 90 min Guided Tour - bit.ly/3xFkFTH 2 Hour Guided Tour - bit.ly/4aWRfOW Early Morning Entry & 90 min Guided Tour - bit.ly/443HLPG Acropolis & Acropolis Museum: 4 Hour Guided Tour - bit.ly/3TZxS18 *Single Tickets* Acropolis Skip-The-Line - bit.ly/3U3xoa2

Thanks for your comment and support Taki. Sorry to make you a little homesick, but hopefully these videos go towards helping you remember all the good things about Athens. Going forward, I will be focusing more on "informative" videos to help people when going to the mainland and the islands, but I'll still be putting out walking tours.
