My grandma and my mom taught me the string test and it never fails me. Dip your spatula or spoon in your mixture while it’s boiling and hold it over the pot , let the mixture drip off the spoon until it’s almost gone then watch to see if it starts leaving a hard string like a spiderweb. When it forms a long string that don’t drop off the spoon it’s ready. Also when pouring the hot mix in the egg whites we always poured a slow steady stream while the egg whites were mixing until it all was in. Then turned up the mixer and let it go until it wasn’t glossy. It’s a wonderful thing though when you have more than one way of doing something.

Looks good when done. My mother used to take Marchino cherries and chop them up real small and put inside of those before you took it off the stove and they were so pretty and hers was still a little shiny. They looked beautiful. She also used pecans chopped up in them, and that was very good to a different batches. She may different.

You take far too much time fussing with where to put things. If you don't get that candy out of the bowl and onto a flat surface it will harden in the bowl, so you gotta' move it along quickly.

How long does this last?
@CrazyCajunLiving Жыл бұрын
We cannot give you an exact date for expiration. Theoretically, if the food was processed safely, for example for canning, and stored properly and shows no sign of spoilage, until that vacuum seal is broken, there should be no way that it becomes further contaminated or becomes unsafe. The one issue with keeping foods too long is you will get quality deterioration, you can get real darkening of colours of many foods, you might get some cloudiness that occurs as starches settle out of the foods, all these extended quality changes over time can start to interfere with our ability to detect spoilage even though it may not be actual spoilage, it may just be deterioration of the food quality, so it’s not a good idea to me to try use things really old or try to look at 25 year old food and assume that it’s safe…We just don’t have absolute expiration dates to give people and neither does the commercial industry, quite frankly. But if it was safe at the time it was originally canned, until that seal is broken there should be nothing else happening to make it unsafe.
@theeorganicgurll Жыл бұрын
@@CrazyCajunLiving ahhhh Okayy I am a beginner at canning and this sounds beyond logical. If I may ask what would be a safe way to prevent contamination after opening or if opened should you use the whole thing? Thank you so much for replying your knowledge very helpful😊

I’ve got a very important question that I’ve been asking different people and cannot get a answer to. When you water glass eggs and you have additional liquid in the jar can you still put the eggs in the jar? Also I was told that you supposed to use the first ones you put in there first, there’s no way you can get the bottom eggs out first so what do you recommend on that. I just got my first two hens starting my chicken Journey thanks for any thing you can help me with
@CrazyCajunLiving2 жыл бұрын
When you have extra water/solution in the jar just keep adding eggs. I do it in the sink because it will overflow as you add more eggs. Just gently reach your hand into the jar holding your fresh egg and place it pointy side down so you can pack more eggs into the jar. When it starts to spill over the sides that is ok. Just as long as all of your eggs are covered when done. Put the lid on and then rinse the jar in the sink from the overflow. Hope this helps. It’s so easy to do and we are really enjoying our eggs
