Man. You know what’s crazy? My son disassembled a deadbolt key lock I had installed when he was 6 years old. This would never work for him lol. I’ve had to install bars on my windows of my house to keep him from going out the windows and I just bought a $275 keypad lock that I’m praying keeps him inside. He’s nonverbal with autism and has adhd. He is so so smart and if anyone reading this has a kiddo as crafty as mine, the lock is called the Lockly secure plus childproof edition. The lock turn comes off the lock to keep special needs kiddos or adults with dementia from being able to unlock the door, and there is a fingerprint reader to get out. Expensive but worth it to keep them safe.

In the UK, they don't put a child at any level because they say each child is different and progress differently. My son started out as severe at age 3 and has progressed and started speaking at 6. I'm still hopeful that he will still improve more and eventually be able to have conversations. They way you speak for me is like giving up.

Anyone have any idea with lever doors. No problem when we're all at home, but if one of us goes out and comes in, this can't be left on. Or even at night when we're sleeping, I lock the door put the safety lever lock but then my husband can't come in from work since he comes home late

I don’t think autism should be given levels in kids; kids are growing and maturing, let’s not assume where they’ll be at 15 off of where they are at 5, or where they’ll be at 25 off of where they are at 15. I think ANY disabled adult could be called “high support needs” if we can’t consistently do ADL’s, and “low support needs” if we can do ADL’s consistently but not so much IADL’s. Even that basic system could change over time, too; best to keep checking in with disabled adults, to make sure those ADL’s and IADL’s are being kept up with, one way or another! ❤

Take him/ her to see primary care doctor. Have doctor write up a prior authorization that states person need care. Then go get hospital social to fax to your health insurance. You will then get a care coordinator.

I recently had my 13yr child wonder outside while I was asleep we found her 3 miles going towards “ the mall” gives me nightmares still thinking how it could’ve gone so wrong. Got a lot of security cameras but she could still run off if she wanted too. I need something she could keep on ( something she can not take off) we tried many things but she’s smart enough, need something she can’t take off or put down but I’ve looked and looked and there’s nothing. We have things for her to keep a track of her but again she can forget to take it or sometimes us as parents hurring around might forget ( we aren’t perfect)

Thank you for that video. My great Gd is a smart little she figures out everything by watching adults I bought the plastic door knob covers she is not quite 3 and has figured out how to open the door. She also will get anything to stand on to reach things. So I will try your method for the top of the door lock.. Thanks for the idea.

I don’t agree with hitting kids, but as a fellow ASD parent, I can understand the shock and frustration. My heart goes out to your wife, who probably didn’t expect to be assaulted on Mother’s Day. My son has ASD and can also be aggressive. He’s only 4, but we do worry about what he’ll be like when he’s older. I wish all of us could help our children more effectively, they are struggling and it is so difficult for them. What do you do when you’ve tried everything and there still doesn’t seem like anything will change?

I'm 19 and most likely have level 2. I need to be reminded daily of things like showering and bringing everything i need with me to work. I can do my job only because it's very repetitive and not very complicated. I do bagging at a store. I need a routine and reminders in my daily life. Socially the majority of the time I can ask strangers questions, but past that, i need help. I don't react to change well at all, mainly due to never getting behavioral therapy. I can't react to most things normally and get upset very easily. I can't live on my own yet, but I'm getting there and plan to move out at the end of the year.
