Certain segments benefit considerably-the elision at 4:08 for example, for its contrasting dynamics-but on the whole, it’s pretty apparent why they essentially eliminated the bass guitar-especially for the most common sound systems used at the time. The lead and rhythm guitars are doubled up on sharp, crunching power chords, which has a menace and its own bottom to it, but when you put the syncopated bass guitar line on a par in volume, a single base note (often high and farty) equals two “power” chords, which sounds like a guy playing over the music with a simplified -note-for-note transcription. It’s distracting as hell, and too far up the neck to provide any sense of “bottom end“ anyway. They definitely should have varied his volume in segments that made musical sense, and hurt Jason’s feeling a little bit, rather than taking his parts down across the board and giving him therapy bills for life

You can sort of swallow that the bass is out of the other songs it is listenable. But how could they take bass out of this song is just pure evil. Even on the album I think they kept more of it in this track than the other ones. IT MAKES IT SO MUCH BETTER.

The One song started my Metallica journey. Back in 89 when the video hit on MTV it opened a whole new dimension of music for me as a young 11 year old. I had a music shop next to me that sold new and used tapes and records and I couldn't get the And Justice for All album as it was too expensive at the time for me and was sold out anyways. So I settled on their 1st album Kill em All. What a gem and played that fukin tape everyday for about a month before I went back and bought Garage Days revisted the original one with them on the cover with their guitars $5.98 EP. Then the Black album which at the time I wasn't a real fan of. I think Master of Puppets was next then Ride the Lightning then finally And Justice for All in a span of about 2 years or so I went down the Metallica rabbit hole which was crazy as I first heard Megadeth Peace Sells and Slayers albums up to South of Heaven before buying any Metallica album🤷♂️ was just band loyal I guess for a little bit there, being a Slayer fan first and foremost 🤟🏼☠️🔥 Metallica opened the door for me to listen to more heavy similar melodic music rather then just Slayer and Megadeth at that time which were the only 2 bands I had tapes of and there was no social media or real similar music minded friends to get any info from. There was Hair Metal and bands like Motley Crue, Bon Jovi and GNR is what ruled the den and most people I knew were into that, classic rock or rap music. So appreciative as again Metallica made me more aware and onto to bands like Anthrax, Pantera, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Testament, Prong, Overkill, Death Angel, Motorhead, Dio, Iron Maiden and of coarse Tool. And Justice for All is probably a definite 3rd favorite behind Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets 🤟🏼♥️

The chorus is flawed. Towards the end of it, tge last two notes are played higher than they should. Otherwise besides hearing the handling of the strings, the tone is great and so is the volume. I like it.

Masterpiece of a record with a horrible production. I was 10 years old, I knew jack shit about sound and still was wondering why it sounded like a demo instead of what Puppets sounded like. The added bass doesn't do it justice, it simply enhances it to a level we can sit through it. Because I haven't heard the original record since Guitar Hero came out and the internet got its hands on Jason's bass. The record should've been properly mixed in '88. James and Rasmussen should've slapped the SHIT out of 5'6 stupid edge-lord Lars and fix the drum sound and come up with a rich and vibrant production with bass.

You claim 24 bit / 48khz but KZbin maximum bitrate is 240kbps, there's a download link for tracks with maximum quality? KZbin compresses and crushed every audio for data saving.

Man you gotta admit, Jason absolutely nailed the bass parts on this album. I don’t know how Lars and James heard this shit and said “yeah let’s make it inaudible”. Hearing these songs with the bass restored makes them sound so much better.
@Ryan_Thompson_GuitaristАй бұрын
Lars wanted the bass to be inaudible because he said it was messing with the drum sound he wanted.
@BuskeeeeeeeeАй бұрын
@@Ryan_Thompson_Guitarist how pretentious. The drums on this album sound so flat. They almost sound like an electric set. The guitars sound flat too. However, AJFA might be where Lars peaked in terms of his playing.

Jesus…Lars is a tool for not having the bass heard! And this and so many mixes like it that bring up the bass to normal levels, proves it! This is far superior!
