The rears in these cars definitely cannot take any more power than stock!! They are WAY too weak and not a good ratio match. I put a 283 Chevy in a Spitfire back in the early 80's ...had to severely alter the frame and steering shaft. The rpm's would be screamin' at 55mph! Blew through 3 rear ends, including one GT-6 rear.

The only thing Gmc did was put their grill and badges on a Chevy C10 so technically its a C10 because all the part fenders and cab say C10. There are no Gmc its all just C10 its tricky the way theu did thst because the Gmc grill its built surrounded by a Chevy C10. Not only that they built on the same assembly lines oftentimes get a Chevy stearing wheel. 😊

Had a '79 Chevette for over 12 years. Went over 330,000 kms on same engine and transmission and clutch and starter. Timing belt for the camshaft broke like clockwork at 75,000 kms. Loved the car as 4-speed, but always looked for an extra gear on the highway. Being a cast iron 1.6L block, I always wondered what would happen with a turbo charger....
