Cool the way you took the plastic out. Not 100% sure about how you secured it for winds - hard to see exactly how you put the small posts. I was going to put two 8-foot, 2x2 stakes a pair of nylons tied to them and the tree to keep it in place.

I read somewhere that you need at least two apple trees in order for them to cross-pollinate. But it looks like you only have one?
@gardentokitchenwgarrycarte3963
@gardentokitchenwgarrycarte3963 3 ай бұрын
Yes, you need two pollinators to cross-pollinate and if you have a 5 in 1 tree which means 5 varieties grafted onto one stock you will be fine. However if you have one variety (ie. macintosh apple) you will need another variety to pollinate. If you are lucky, your neighbour has another apple tree in close proximity to yours that will work as well. Good luck with your apply tree. Garry

If you aren't able to provide as much compost as that will the tomatoes be a bit smaller and still tasty enough? I don't understand what is going on with the "compost bucket " situation..? Are there holes somewhere? Do we treat it as a bush or cordon?

The leaves and flowers have dropped, and in a month now the leaves n flowers r drying sadly, any hints and tips you can share please to bring it back to life or is it too late, i have used seaweed and good compost. Thank you

I use steel mesh- 6 inch squares- used for concrete floors and support them with steel posts. Its rusts but when the climbing beans grow you can't see the mesh. It lasts for years and like you say, it can be painted with a metal paint. What country and zone do you live? Garry

I ONLY eat Lebanese Cucumbers ! I either grow them myself when in Season , here in Australia , on the East Coast of New South Wales , NSW , and I also buy them from Aldi when I have none growing ! I use Steel Mesh Trellises , upright to let them grow up vertical , as they like to climb , saving on space too ! The Mesh is 100 mm square and I bought them in Sheets of 1200 mm wide and 180 mm long ! That system works best for me !

@gardentokitchenwgarrycarte3963

Hey Nauer, Yes, standard grafted single varieties usually have a life span of around 20 years - however the 5-1 apparently have a shorter span dependent upon growing conditions. Prior to grafting the big 40 foot trees would last much longer. thanks for watching. have you seen my video on the apple tree guard? kzbin.info/www/bejne/npTHm4uDid2rnJIsi=gduNGorI8lcHbDR7

Hi from Scotland. I’ve seen some say that you transplant the whole thing in the ground when it’s time and others say that you rip the netting off. May i ask for your advice please?
@gardentokitchenwgarrycarte3963
@gardentokitchenwgarrycarte3963 7 ай бұрын
Hi Julie, I have never taken the netting off and my plants grow really big. I've started to use the bigger J7 and I really like the results. Sometimes I start seeds in the J7 and pot them up into larger containers before they hit the garden and the pot becomes really full of roots - and that's what you really want a good root structure before you put into garden. Take a look at my larger j7 @ kzbin.info/www/bejne/jF6boKxmapicfNEsi=3oxNQoL5Hpouqpnd thanks for watching from Scotland! Garry

Forget digging a hole with a shovel. Get a Mantis little tiller and let it dig the hole. I planted a Gala apple, yesterday, and my Mantis dug the hole three Mantis’wide and three long. I used my Mantis to get most of the soil out of the hole. I did clean up the hole with my shovel and Pulaski, as well as my boys axe to cut roots.

Seed potatoes chit easily, whilst store bought ones are treated with a chemical to slow down chitting, although if you wash them and give them enough time they should chit. Don't forget that potatoes can be determinate and indeterminate, determinate ones grow faster, and only produce potatoes at one level, whilst indeterminate one produce potatoes at a number of levels as they grow upwards, and you need to keep covering about 70% of the stalks with soil or straw etc, as they grow.

My observations with potato cultivation using various planting mediums has yielded interesting insights. Notably, I've observed that certain varieties of red potatoes exhibit suboptimal growth when cultivated in straw. This could suggest a potential discrepancy between potato varieties and their compatibility with straw as a medium. Another intriguing observation pertains to the soil-to-straw ratio, as it appears that a greater volume of soil is necessary to complement the use of straw effectively. This observation prompts further investigation into the interplay between planting medium composition and potato growth. Numerous resources, including videos available on platforms like KZbin, have contributed to my understanding of these dynamics. While the use of straw alone is primarily composed of carbon and might lack the essential nutrients required for optimal potato growth, it has become apparent that a balanced approach involving nutrient-rich mediums could yield better results. Incorporating high-oxygen-intake mediums could be a key factor, as oxygen availability is known to significantly impact root development and overall plant health. Additionally, I'm considering the possibility of substituting straw with alternative free mediums, such as cardboard or free substitutions . This exploration is driven by the understanding that different mediums could provide diverse benefits in terms of moisture retention, nutrient availability, and structural support. I'm keenly interested in gathering insights and opinions from fellow gardeners and experts who have experimented with diverse potato cultivation strategies. By combining the collective knowledge and experiences available, I aim to formulate an effective and scientifically informed approach to growing a bountiful yield of potatoes.
