With all due respect, very good video and very good content, but, one small thing that differentiates "work" from "slavery" is the "payment for time", so encouraging people to work for a small business or influencers FOR FREE seems to me to be the reason why you should have hired a copywriter for yourself.

Thank you for your opinion. I've run several businesses over the years, and the best and most consistent way to learn and grow your business is to offer free services at the beginning of your business. This provides the opportunity to practice and improve with actual customers. THEN (it doesn't take long) you can start charging. It doesn't take long, and remember, this is just one way to grow a business. It is what has worked for me. I was a wedding photographer for 12 years. The first 3 wedding I shot I did for free. I'm SO glad I did! I was able to help someone who had never expected to have a photographer because they didn't have the budget, and they were able to help me by giving the the experience I needed. This process has been successful for me, so that is why I suggest it for others.

@@reneefclancy Yes, personally it is always gratifying to see that your work is well received by people, I agree 100%. Personally, I am a graphic designer, business administrator, MBA and at 38 years old, after many jobs and several companies, I have understood that free work does not benefit either the owner or the employee. If the objective is to practice, it is better to do it for free with a family member or someone you trust who can offer you the feedback you are looking for, since entering the labor market at the lowest cost that exists can be taken by the niche as something of very poor quality, among other things.

Do you think i can find someone on fiver that is not so much expensive, so i will can afford financially. When i will format alone on Google docs, what is the next step later i need to do ? Thank you. I appreciate a lot that you responded to me. ( For example can i choose the monthly payment the 29 that it said to help me more with format and everything)

Amazon charged me for shipping for my author copy, so the price came out to almost as much as the book. Also, I've heard that Amazon carefully looks at reviews. If they notice that your reviews are coming from friends and family (not sure how they can tell, but I hear they are pretty sophisticated in figuring it out), they will not list them...I know someone who had their reviews section shut down. Also, something to be aware of: if you have friends and family buy your books....they are more than likely people who don't buy the genre you're selling....say they are usually buying books on gardening, sports, etc. If your buyers are people who wouldn't really buy your type book, it can mess with the algorithm which looks at who is buying your books and presents it to people with similar interests. Just some things I've learned along the way....thank you for the video.
@reneefclancy

Haven't had a problem so far - and I'm sure Amazon doesn't expect me to tell my dad NOT to buy my books! From my research and reading what authors recommend on the dashboard, as long as you don't require a review, you just ask, then that is fine. Also, let's talk scale - I'm talking a handful of people in this study, I'm sure if there were suddenly 100 reviews all from people with the same last name, that would raise red flags. But, that's not happening here.

@reneefclancy I started last year December but with kids coloring books which I massively failed but I kept going learning from my mistakes but adult activity books with less crowded niches and saw success. I'm doing organic sales for now and im making 3 figure Profits its not much yet but it allows me to pay for all my monthly subscriptions and for the past 3 months I've seen stable development and it's nice seeing double or triple of what you made the previous month. Plus my books are getting good reviews so it's all good for now

I'm new as well, (This is Dec, and I started in October 2024), but dabbled a couple years ago because I really wanted to write a non-fiction book that I knew had a very small audience. I also really love quilting, and a friend offered me a spot in his booth where he sells T-shirts, so I was 'Sewing to Sell', but no one has any money - like no one bought at ANY of the booths, but there was a lot of looky-Lou's just wandering. Anyway, you have to get these things out of your system - it's like clutter clearing: There's no money in quilts unless I mail them (UGH), so my other love is writing, so I'm putting books out there. My novel (that I love!) has been on hold while I make books for KDP. I do study under Sean - who Renee mentions, although I'm not strictly following his plan yet - getting fun things out of my system. Sean doesn't say this, but I do like the idea of putting out five or ten books in one niche. I have a word search out, which is about horses and I have some horse social media following and sold a few organically. Nothing I've put out yet is something that I want to advertise, mainly because I have other things to do like my author central page, learn to make the 3-D mock ups, etc. I love BookBolt and Canva as well, and absolutely hate the Shape Word Search - very difficult, the training is in heavily accented 'Indian-British', and the guy is a horrible teacher. I'm about to give up on that, although the FB group is trying to help me, but I'm not the only one who can't figure it out. No refunds - because they know everyone will have a hard time. Shoulda known better than to buy that, but I thought I'd get in on a new type of word search. I'm sticking to the easier to use software like Book Bolt.

KDP blocks books in a few hours with only the statement that it can cause customer dissatisfaction (something like that) I had one book (word search) published but all others get blocked. Though the second word search book was made exactly the same way with a different niche using Book Bolt. What does it mean when they say it might cause customer dissatisfaction?
@reneefclancy
@reneefclancy 8 күн бұрын
I’m sorry that happened! When I researched the phrase they are using about causing customer dissatisfaction, the KDP guidelines say it could be due to poor upload or formatting quality, but I agree, it’s so frustrating to not get a clear answer!

You started your store in July of 2024. In that time you set up 73 listings and you've made 35 sales. That's it. Just 35 sales in 6 months. So, I'm curious, if this is such a fantastic passive income method, why isn't it working for you? Also, how do you have the audacity to post a video like this claiming it would work for others while promoting a secondary program (Alura) that certainly doesn't seem to be helping you get ahead?

I can see what you mean. Understand that KZbin is my main platform where I try side hustles , and then teach about best practices. I do the research, show how, and then support others as they have questions. haven’t posted anything in a while on Etsy and I’m not running ads anymore. Success on Etsy is totally possible if you focus and follow best practices.

Hi Renee..I have been getting on average 1 sale a day since 4 months mainly from Etsy ads. I turned off my Etsy ads 4 days ago and have had zero sales since then. I sell personalized name necklaces that come with a meaningful message card. Yesterday I had 20 visits and today I only had 15 visits to my shop. Is this because I have turned off the ads or is it because it is usually this slow as we approach Christmas considering today is December 23? Is advertising my products on Pinterest and KZbin shorts a good strategy? How do I increase views to my shop without Ads? I only sell to customers in USA. I would really appreciate your response, thanks!
@reneefclancy
@reneefclancy 12 күн бұрын
From what I've heard about Etsy, yes, Ads are the way to go. But ads are just one way to jump start your store and acquire data - read the data from those ads and see what people are looking at, and what they are favoriting. For example, I was making a variety of digital products, but after running ads, I noticed that most visitors were only clicking on one theme or style of product. So I followed that avenue, and created more of that one style, and then sales increased. There is a podcast I just listened to called TDSM (Till Death Stop Me) and she features best practices around Etsy. The most recent episode called "One Stop Shop to All Things Etsy and Shopify" was really good with great tips. I'd start there! Good luck!

FYI. Coco Wyo is a group of artists making coloring books, they are based in the Vietnam but their US presence is located in Wyoming hence the Wyo part of the brand name. They have recently applied for copyrights on most of their phrases such as "Bold and Easy" "Cute and Cozy" so be aware that any books that have those phrases might lose their books if the copyrights are approved and go live. They have also recently partnered with Penguin Books.
@reneefclancy
@reneefclancy 26 күн бұрын
Great information! They can apply for copyright, but in my limited experience with copyright law, you cannot claim rights to a general word unless does NOT resemble the item that is being sold. For example, Apple can copyright the word apple, because it has nothing to do with apples, but the word cannot be used in context with other computers. Celebrities have also tried to copyright phrases, without success.
