Neither are meant to be taken seriously and are more for the fun of creating them and then making kind of narrative surrounding it. Sometimes the creators of these videos take it seriously themselves on both sides and honestly thats just silly. Saying that someone is "lying" or "should be held to higher standards" when building trap bases is just silly cause yeah you could build a big obsidian cube but then whos having fun

Just to mention: If you don't have spruce saplings you could also bone meal the moss to get azaleas, which you can bone meal to grow into trees which turn the moss below them into rooted dirt, which can be hoed to make regular dirt
