Just got the core i5 8250u 8gb ram 500gb SSD variant, the laptop is so fast and I even play GTA 5 on it surprisingly runs smoothly at 30-35fps 😂

It should handle it, But don't expect great performance. if you want solid performance, try something like this with the newer intel 12th gen processor. Just got one without battery and SSD for 100 EUR. I'm getting a 16Gb ram (2400hz 1.2v), new battery(plus the Cable Cord ) and a SSD (NVME 3.0 512Gb ) for another 100$ on aliexpress. I believe for portability, good battery life ( planning to do Linux + Undervolt ) and light weight ( 1,1~1,2kg ), is the perfect match for my needs. The worst thing about it is the only one slot for ram upgrade. Losing dual channel is a big hit.

Yup, Windows + VRR gives you far more tools to deal with struggling games than the slightly more powerful Deck.

I got mine a couple months ago from Best Buy new for $299 because of a price error mine actually made it out the warehouse before they could cancel my order lol. Still, im kind of wanting to just get the z1 extreme. Unless ur playing a lot of retro games, the performance is just okay at best. Having to put everything too low and still set resolution to like 900p just to still get only 30-35 fps is hard for me

@@ENTheforest Yeah, surprisingly. I am using Firefox, it does take few seconds to load my DuckDuckGo homepage, but nothing related to laptop itself. Still using for studies and I play GW2 on it with everything lowest with no lags lol. So still amazed how good this stuff for such price.

No, this doesn't damage it in any way. It's just like using a low power charger, takes longer to charge the rog ally but it won't hurt it. however, the powerbank might be running at max power from 100% to 0% so the power bank is in a little bit of pain......but power banks are just big batteries, and they can take a lot of abuse, plus they are cheap. I've had no issues, and technically speaking this shouldn't cause any issues at all, even the power bank should be good long term.

Just manage to get a non extreme one for around 145eur trough signing a contract with my ISP, and got 2gbit download and 1gbit upload speed in the package for 37eur a month for the next 2 years. Have a PC for any more demanding games, so this thing should be great for emulation, indie and more casual games. Can't wait for it to arrive. Happy to see it can also handle diablo 4,intought it would struggle with it. I plan on using lossless scaling program from steam for fsr and frame gen, plan to heavily debloat windows and do any optimisation I can think of, so really should be good. Just wonder how deep rock galactic survivor runs on it.

Grabbed one at $299 new when it was on sale a few weeks ago. Super happy with it at that price. Plays GamePass cloud games very well.

Btw, even though the VRR is advertized as 48hz-120hz, it still has Low Framerate Compensation for anything lower than 48hz and is still very smooth.

I picked one up on the local craigs list for $200. Nobody wanted it. I did. I replaced the SATA M.2 disk with a Patriot P300 NVmE disk. When I boot it, I get 8 penguins in top of the screen... The 8 threads really make speed on Slackware Linux. And the screen is magnificent. The machine is called 'chroom' on my fruttenboel site. Very glad with it.

I want to get one for my wife. She’s not a huge gamer and just likes to casually game before bed. She already gave her switch to our daughter. I don’t think she needs the best version for the type of games she plays

A steam deck probably is a better option, battery life is better, unless Windows is an absolute must would not really invest on this one over a steam deck, I got both a steamdeck and rog ally z1 extreme, I use the ally for more demanding games like cyberpunk Forza etc the steam deck can still run them but they look bit better at 1080p and also sound of ally is superior, I don't really see the point of the non extreme version other than it has windows and ppl are more familiar with it over Linux OS on the steamdeck.

Imo this is the handheld to beat for emulation. Open box (perfect condition) you can get this for $339, that's about on par with the Odin 2 base, and considerably cheaper than the Odin 2 pro, but this has access to Wii U/Xbox/PS3 and older pc games since it's an X86 device rather than Android which is software limited for the time being.

i just bought the non extreme 2 days ago and my expectations were low due to a lot of negative reviews for bugs but after 2 days I'm loving the thing I have not ran into any bluescreens or games crashing its been running everything smooth at medium graphics aside from starfield it did not like that game lol, and with no stuttering or over heating soon I'm upgrading the ssd to 2 tb and its gonna probably become my main gaming device overall 8/10 for me especially at $399.99

they have 2 different purpose , if you wanna play " next gen " games for cheap the series s the best option but if u want a hand held then u can choose between this, z1 extreme variant/ steam deck, etc depends on your budget and availability in your area
