Super vid! I have just begun the process of planning and building my own dream guitar - Gibson flying V. I've never undertaken anything like it, nor do I have the sexy power tools to do it. This video is awesome as I would rather attempt it by hand first. Could you possibly post a list and brand of hand tools used?
@rauschguitars2 күн бұрын
No list of tools unfortunately - you'll have to see what's available in your area, and what makes sense to you process-wise. Be aware though, that collecting hand tools may be more expensive than buying a router and a few templates.

I love the idea of using thread inserts into the neck! I’ve never seem that done before but it has to be a stronger mechanical connection!

Electric tools big no no ... then wood chips out and uses cyanoacrylic glue with accelerator xD Very poor finish to be honest, especially on the head and fretboard screw holes.

How much do you think this guitar cost? Prices START at $3k and I doubt they sound as good as Gibson Les Paul.
@BryceWayne3 күн бұрын
@MyToxicMasculinity price is valid for this type of handmade instrument. Cheap les Paul's are $3k for bad quality control, computer built guitars. Brands like Harley Benton prove what fender and Gibson charge are out of control. But it's people like you who pay stupid money for a brand even though blindfolded would tell a different story

Why cut the fingerboard taper with a handsaw?😮
@rauschguitars25 күн бұрын
The Japanese saw makes a thin enough cut that I'm able to use the offcuts to bind the fretboard. It's easier than it looks when you have a sharp saw blade.

Nothing to share unfortunately. I used FretFind2D to design the fretboard, then drew out the body from that.

Servus! I bought it from Nigel Forster @nkforster, he does a limited number of them. You can do the same with a round fret crowning file, but the wheel is a nice addition.

If you install the 2 carbon fibre bars to maintain beck rigidity, why is a truss-rod also needed? If the neck still needs a Truss-rod, why have the bars? Why sand the radius three times? Install fret markers and "binding" and then sand radius once. No volute to help prevent classic LP neck-break? Why not glue-in the neck?
@rauschguitarsАй бұрын
Lots to unpack, but here goes: The truss rod is there to fine-tune the setup. I sand the radius multiple times during the process, the first being a rough sanding so I can make sure the fret slots are deep enough, the last being to make sure the fretboard is straight after mating it to the neck. The neck does in fact have a volute, and is a bolt on because that's what myself and the client agreed on... Thanks for watching!

Very nice video about how to make a beautiful guitar! It is very inspiring indeed. Just a question, what is the neck angle of the guitar, how much does it way and how do you call this shape?
@rauschguitarsАй бұрын
Thanks for the compliment! The neck angle is around 2-3º, and the guitar weights in at 3,4kg. I don't have a name for the shape, since it was custom designed together with the client. I'll happily make another though, if you're interested get in touch on [email protected]
