FYI in the manual it says: Keep the starter pressed until it's running. So, man, don't hit it for half a second. My question would be: Usually it immediately goes into another start attempt and runs, right?
@Nizm0Mike
@Nizm0Mike 2 ай бұрын
The starter button runs a start cycle like a push button start car. The ecm controls the starter running. It has a programmed time to run the start cycle. The problem was eventually resolved by a Harley service bulletin noting issues with early starters. The starter clutch was replaced with a retrofit and has worked great since. This is of course after a tech told me my battery was low for 2 years (but somehow the bike would still start after this failed start)

There are four plugs. Three of the plugs are only accessible once the intake manifold is removed.

Thx.. fixin to tackle this on my 2015 Frontier tomorrow. Did you have to do any relearns on throttle body or anything?? Also, did you torque the intake bolts?? My service manual says 14 ftlb but I see some people torquing them to like 7 ftlb.. Just curious how you did it. Thx again for the insight.

Good luck. Nothing strange other than getting it back together. I just used my wrist torque wrench and got everything 'tight'.

Typical 4cyl stuff. Head work, valves, cam, exhaust, exhaust manifold, turbo, boost controller, adj. Fuel pressure regulator to cheat the injectors. Some of it is pretty off the shelf, some of it was small batch production that has been discontinued for 15+ years. Bottom end of the motor and transmission have never been out of it. All the other upgrades have been brakes and suspension.

Hello I am also thinking about using a k&n filter, is this filter safe when we drive in rainy conditions?, and how do you wash the motorbike? Does the filter have to be covered with some kind of plastic when we wash the motorbike?
@Nizm0Mike
@Nizm0Mike Жыл бұрын
I was a new rider with this bike back then and avoided bad weather riding. When needing to wash the bike, I would put a plastic sandwich or grocery bag over the filter as I did with the end of the exhaust.

Its the starter gear assembly. Early model ones have it. It's the gears between the starter and the flywheel. Call Harley customer service and get a reference number. Then have your dealer order the part.Harley said they will pay for the upgraded replacement. Taking mine in tomorrow.

Called Harley customer service. Gave me a case #. But told me to get it looked at and see what dealer says. I have 21. Only 1500 miles. Bought new oct 21. They're already giving me the runaround over the phone. Just tonight put in new 480 cold cranking amp lithium battery. Better but not how should be. Guarantee will screw me on this

Do you have an iinstallation for the "screaming eagle" speed shifter? I cannot locate the electrical connection point. It's near the bottom of the radiator according to the service tech at my local dealer. Everything else was easy to install. Excellent video BTW!
@Nizm0Mike
@Nizm0Mike 2 жыл бұрын
Joe, unfortunately I cannot help you with that one as the 2021 models of the bike are not capable of using the quick shifter. From what I've seen, I think the connector may be inside the bottom left radiator faring but I'm not entirely sure. You might have to have it turned on at the dealer as well. Best of luck to ya!

Its a faulty designed starter. They used a nylon bushing instead of a metal one inside. It mushrooms especially when hot. The dealer in springfield illinois on labor day 2022 told me they just recieved a notice from the factory to repair them under warranty. Its a 3 hour job.

Thanks for this. Hard to tell from the available pictures, so I hope you don’t mind my asking: are the aux lights fully protected by the engine guards? I mean, if it were to be laying on its side
@Nizm0Mike

The tube bracket mounts to the engine guard and the rest of the assembly runs in board of them. They are almost in there by the radiator.

Hey bro great video I have a 2017 2.5 version of the same truck. Do you need a torque wrench or no? It’s amazing how they do so much silly stuff to change spark plugs.🤣😂🤣
@Nizm0Mike
@Nizm0Mike 2 жыл бұрын
Hey there. I didn't use a torque wrench but I suggest doing it if you are not familiar with working on vehicles and normal fastener tightness. I went to college for automotive and have worked on cars for a while so I can get a pretty good feel for it. Too loose and you may get a leak. Too tight and it could be worse as you can damage things or make it bind up. Just be cautious!

Was told it’s the way it is from Harley. I’d say the guy that put the other pipe on is right on. I’m thinking it’s back pressure or something so get a slip on.
@Nizm0Mike
@Nizm0Mike 2 жыл бұрын
I've got the no baffle, db killer removed pipe on it and still having the issue. I think it's electrical. The voltage drops from over 12 down to 2 or 3. Fails to start. Works fine on the next press.

Mine does that sometimes I just hit the button again and it fires right up.
@Nizm0Mike
@Nizm0Mike 2 жыл бұрын
Mine always starts on the second button push but it still seems abnormal for the voltage to drop so much and cause a start failure. The cams are supposed to phase open to reduce engine pressure for start up.
