@nickNLB5 ай бұрын
Thanks 🙌 the wind screen and upper deflectors are made by Puig. It’s called the sport screen…there’s different options for shades of black, or completely blacked out. I chose the blacked out sport screen. The upper deflectors on the side of the windscreen do not come completely blacked out, I got the darkest shade for those. Running the sport screen will bring more wind to your chest and face as it sits 2 inches lower from the stock. I don’t mind it. Others might hate it.

Would like to hear more about how you modified the tank to fit steering damper? Looking to do this setup also.
@nickNLB5 ай бұрын
There’s a Tenere 700 forum that I basically went off of. You have to melt the upper front portion of the gas tank and push it in a bit to clear damper. You need a heat gun and you need the brand new Acerbis gas tank with no gas in it. I already had the damper installed. So I didn’t take the damper off. I left it on and I manipulated the gas tank until I found that it fit. I would mock it up and take it down every time to manipulate it a little more. Here’s the link www.tenere700.net/topic/5173-acerbis-tank-and-steering-damper/

Yes. I had to take a heat gun and melt the upper front area of the gas tank, so that I could push it in a little. Obviously I did it with it being a brand new tank and without gas in it. In my one month review video, at 3:30 in the video I talk about it a bit. If you don’t melt the the upper portion of the tank, it won’t fit with the damper. The stock tank will fit with the damper though.

What kind of windscreen is that? Does that cure the buffeting?thanks.
@nickNLB7 ай бұрын
It’s a puig windscreen…it’s called their Sport Screen. It’s completely blacked out. It is 2 inches less than the stock wind screen, which makes the wind blast worse. I don’t mind it as I already have a MT-10 with no wind protection. If you’re looking for wind blast protection I would not get this screen. I got it for looks and the fact it was shorter as I’m riding more technical stuff. Some have asked if I lose visibility with it and I honestly don’t, my seeing area and where I sit I can see right over it.
@davidrivera17277 ай бұрын
I love the wind blast, but I don’t like is buffing where your helmet is bobbing around. I had one bike I could never get rid of it and just because of the wind. I’m trying to avoid.
@nickNLB7 ай бұрын
@@davidrivera1727my goal with this Tenere build was to make it more like a dirt bike than an adventure bike. Dirt bikes usually don’t have any wind protection. But yes if you don’t want wind, they make plenty of wind screens. Puig has a really tall one that 2 inches higher than stock and I think that one would protect the head from wind.

Riding off-road, you have got to watch out for the single loose rocks. Even though they may not look very big, they will roll sideways, and dumping your bike will become very likely to happen. Anyone who rides off-road has probably experienced that at one point. I had it happen to me one day in Wyoming on my way to work, taking a shortcut off road, on a dirt 2 track road. Only I was doing about 35 mph when I took my eyes off the trail in front of me and hit a 2.5-inch rock, and my XR600 Honda jumped to the left, and I went down hard, fracturing my right thumb.
@nickNLB7 ай бұрын
You’re not wrong, this area is filled with loose rocks. I almost lost it coming up the hill. Not only is there loose rocks but there is also dips on the trail that you can’t really see in the go pro. Right before losing it I hit a dip and when I came back up it got interesting. It’s funny that you mention taking your eyes off of the road. I’ve done that for mere seconds to look at stuff in the distance and nearly lose it. Owwww well I hope you’re ok now, and that you still ride. Keep the shiny side up 🙌👍

What did you use to remove the side and rear panel decals?
@nickNLB7 ай бұрын
I used my wife’s hair comb that has a blow dryer built into it. You can use a blow dryer that emits heat or a heat gun. I just warmed it up enough so that I could easily peel it off. Just be careful with how much heat you put near the gas tank. I removed all the decals with the panels still installed.
@Lakiozoon7 ай бұрын
@@nickNLB Did you use something to remove the sticky residue?
@nickNLB7 ай бұрын
@@Lakiozoonthere isn’t any if you do it right. You heat up a corner of the decal and then peel it. And as you’re peeling it, you’re putting heat on the portion that is about to be peeled. It becomes easier to remove because the adhesive is melting or heating up. You never take the heat off until it’s completely off. I’d look up some videos on pulling decals off with a heat gun or a blow dryer first before doing it.

And watch.. Chinese manufacturers will start to publish in the specs that bikes are OEM w suspension set up for @190-200 pound riders instead of getting bikes with coils for @165 pounds of rider, no calculations for small amount of gear/luggage. On most bikes, you need new spring for shock, new oil and springs for forks just to start.. tires are usually not great so I don't fault manufacturers for putting on a middle of the road tire. And in the US, bikes are better based in reality, middle aged guys and 90+% of on road, and most often off road is a dirt road and nothing technical

I dread the day when T7’s or Yamahas in general are made in China. I’m happy to have a T7 that’s made in Japan. Yeah it was definitely set up for on road. I took the stock tires off road but it was hard, compacted and Rocky. It wasn’t that bad. But if I took it to this area in the video, it would’ve been bad. It’s impressive by how little change to the bike can make the bike completely different.

The gas tank being so high kind of ruins it for me. They should have made the world raid tank setup standard. I sat on a 700 last weekend and it felt super light but it didn't have gas in it, sales guy said just wait till you get a full tank it's going to want to fall over if you aren't used to a top heavy bike.
@nickNLB7 ай бұрын
The tank isn’t that tall. It is aftermarket. Compared to the stock tank, there’s not much a difference. A 7lb difference filled. I don’t feel it being more top heavy. You have to understand these bikes are very different from dirt bikes. They’re not in the 250lb-300ln range. They are very heavy. 450lb-500lbs. A tank isn’t going to change the weight of it by much. This bike is heavy with or without. Standing up off-road, I have no issues with the bike. I can ride this bike just like I ride a 250lb dirt bike. The only difference is that it sucks to slow down in the dirt with this bike 😂
@thereal-ghost7 ай бұрын
@@nickNLB ah point taken. I am a harley rider (yeah I know one of those guys) and it's all I know. I've never even ridden a dirt bike so my only reference is big touring frames and a few sport bikes from the early 2000s. I'm used to 900lbs but not that high up of course lol Probably a handful offroad when slowing down for sure lol

900lbs 😲😲😲 yikes. I would hate that much weight on two wheels in the desert. I think it’s just a matter of preference. Harley’s are great for comfort and laxed riding. I personally can’t do them, it just feels odd to me especially when turning. I guess if I started there it would be bad. but since I started dirt bikes at a young age I’ve slowly gone up from there, rather than start heavy. @mapache_del_sur7 ай бұрын
@@nickNLB you don’t lose any suspension travel, but you do lose ground clearance with the lowering link. Man, I thought I had it under control, and I really didn’t wanna do the lowering link! But I figured eventually I can just put the original links back once I feel ready. I had been feeling pretty good about it in stock form! But when I dropped it, I lost all confidence. Luckily I had crash bars and pannier racks, but it did bend the crash bars and scuffed the exhaust. I was devastated. I can’t wait til the day when I can take all the protection off and put the regular links on. I have a feeling that might be a couple years though. My bike before this was a Shadow 750, so huge difference. Ever since the T7 came out in 2019, I wanted one. I honestly didn’t think I would ever be able to do it. I bought it strictly for the fact that it looks the tits! So now I am about 6 months into learning how to tame this beast. It’s so fun.
