He was matched by his leading man, George Lazenby, who exuded the presence and sexual assurance Hunt was looking for. Lazenby’s fighting skills clinched his selection by Harry Saltzman, over four other finalists. (Until recently, he was most like James Bond in his physical abilities.) I saw this film during its premiere week in New York City, before the 1969 Christmas holidays. From the opening fight and “This never happened to the other fellow,” I knew James Bond was in good hands. The script, supporting cast, cinematography, action, editing, and score were all top-of-the-line. (And look what we descended to with the next three films!) Thank you for your 50th Anniversary tribute to my favourite Bond film - and my favourite James Bond!

The Best Bond movie ever.

This guy directed 1 and 2 of the best Bond movies, On Her Majesty's Secret Service and For Your Eyes Only. Both perfected hard hitting tales with great tension and the right amount of humor Lazenby needed more time to get into the role, but he was grand and Roger was perfect in For Your Eyes Only, older, but befitting of the experienced Bond you see.

Lovely tribute. I grew up watching Sir Roger Moore and his Bond has always been my favourite. Apparently he was a true gentlemen off the screen. People always compare Connery and Moore, but in my opinion they were both perfect in their own ways. May they both rest in peace.

Vespers betrayal and death hangs like a ghostly spectre over every frame of the Daniel Craig era. It only reinforces the notion that Bond can never truly be happy, that his life is constantly looking over his shoulder and yet...if someone got lucky he'd welcome it. Because it would take him back to her. He hates and loves Vesper, but hides his pain with the job that he is suited to best leaving a trail of corpses in his wake. But ultimately it doesn't fill the black hole in his heart.
