I was 4 years old when the Talair plane crashed at Buiyebi near Mendi . My dad was the Head Teacher at Buiyebi Primary School at that time. I can remember people were running towards the crash site which was at the side of main highway.

Thank you Wally for sharing these memorable experiences and beautiful memories. I flew couple of flights with you as a flight attendant on Talair. Yes, we miss those services in the rural areas these days due to lack of transportation in which Talair played a mjor role in it.❤ 👊👏👍As a former staff, I can attest that Talair paved the way for alot of services for the government. Am proud of Talair. 👏👏👏👍❤️❤️

@@devlynolan1222 I also enjoyed working for Talair and the great service we provided as well as the staff camaraderie

Brings back fond memories flying on TalAir planes. Flts were always on time. If it was not for the reasons that forced it's closure in PNG, the airline company will have advanced into modern and bigger aircrafts and providing a better service to the travelling public compared to the national flag carrier.

Thanks for sharing the Aviation History of an Airline ( TALAIR ) that reached out to the remote airstrip touching the lives of the rural population. The government services and rural-based economic activities were very well sustained. However, the million-dollar question is, why could we not see Talair again in the rural areas of Papua New Guinea?

Those were the good old days. The Pkt of rice back then was K1/$0.20 cents. Now, in the 20th century, go to the store & see, you will shit yourself. Why couldn't the PNG government maintain that era? What happened? How come it turned out bad now? At one time, the PNG KINA was better than the Australian dollar. So where did it go wrong? 😊

The last time I saw Dominie ZK-AKY (now 81 years old) was in Motueka on 16-2-88. Mum, Dad, my wife, one small daughter (her first ride in an aeroplane), my son and Peter Rowley and I went for a circuit around Motueka in the old girl. Unfortunately I can't recall the pilot's name. Beautiful aircraft.

Heart moving and fond memories of a pioneer aviation entity that touched and served the people of Papua New Guinea to its core from the heart. To all those daring pilot friends who would arise at early dawn to race to see who would be the first to break the silence of the day, fly home at sunset, be recalled or diverted for a Medivac, I can only say, " tenk yu tru olgeta long hatwok bilong yu, yu givim long ol pipol bilong Papua New Guinea. To the many national and expatriate ground staff in various divisions of TALAIR, tenk yu tru ol Wantok na ol poro. For those who have lived their lives, tenk yu tru in silence. I served as ground staff and station manager in Lae, Mendi, Goroka, Popondetta, Rabaul, Madang, Gurney-Alotau, Wewak, Vanimo, Mount Hagen and to countless out station ports through out PNG. Tenk Yu Tru TALAIR, You were a True Servant Warrior and Pioneer Aviation Hero of Papua New Guinea. Marco O Paul (Served 1979 - 1984)

It's not necessary - the farmer wants to increase production by applying fertilizer. He could just accept a lower yield.
