The year 1984 had a criminal sin with that famous and overrated Billboard. There is no possible explanation why "Dancing in the dark", by Bruce Springsteen, has not managed to reach the top one. At least for a single week. Springsteen, in fact, does not have a number one on this ranking. Doubly embarrassing. The same thing happened with "Born in the USA", months later. Outrageous. The second thing. How is it possible that The Pointer Sisters didn't make it to the top one either. With all due respect, but Denisse Williams, with that song from the "Footloose" soundtrack, did not achieve half the success in the rest of the planet compared to "Jump", with June Pointer as lead vocals. And the same with "I'm so excited", with Anita Pointer. In addition, for the second time Laura Branigan was rejected in Billboard with one of her most memorable hits: "Selfcontrol." In 1982, no one can explain how "Gloria" only reached number two. Both of Branigan's songs are classics of international music. In short, add and continue. "Thriller" by Michael Jackson, "Borderline" by Madonna, "Girls just wanna have fun" by Cyndi Lauper, "Drive" by The Cars, "Oh, Sherri" by Steve Perry, "Twist of fate" by Olivia Newton-John" (December 1983 or January 1984) and another unforgettable classic: "It's my life" by Talk Talk, a british pop anthem until now. our days. In short, 1984 had great successes, but also many unforgivable failures.

It's Britney bitch!

Although I am a big detractor of the famous Billboard ranking, since it is extremely overrated (tastes in the USA rarely coincide with the rest of the world), I must admit that that year 1985 was very close to representing the entire planet with its number one singles. Of course, there were 5 major failures, and they mainly affected female performers. I find it incredible that "Walking on sunshine" by Katrina and The Waves didn't make it to the top, when it was practically THE SONG of that year. It was playing on the radio all the time. The same thing happened, in those same months, with "We don't need another hero" by Tina Turner, which became as popular, or more, than "What's love got to do with it" from the previous year. The film "Beverly Hills Cop" was also unfairly disadvantaged, because "The Heat is On" by Glenn Frey and "Neutron Dance" by The Pointer Sisters dominated that entire first half. And finally, "Conga" by Miami Sound Machine, featuring Gloria Estefan at the helm. That song took the world by storm at the end of 1985. Oh well. I like all the number ones from that year in this overrated ranking.

@bemainstream2 ай бұрын

You forgot Heaven is a Place on Earth by Belinda Carlisle that was n.1 in USA, UK and New Zeland and n.2 in Australia and n.3 in Canada, so 3 n.1 and 2 podium hits, while you ncluded other songs with at least 2 results out of the podium or even totally absents in the Top 10. Honestly, your selection is not very precise if you exclude a song that really brushed n.1 in all the markets while you include others really far from n.1.
