Hello, I need your help, I have the sidewinder force feedback wheel with gameport to USB adapter, when I connect it to the PC I look in gaming devices and it doesn't take it, I would like to know if I can make it work with the controller or if there is no possibility
@ByteSizeThoughts9 күн бұрын
Best of luck trying to get it to work, mine was the USB version so it worked at the time. I haven't tried with the gameport version and an adapter. Possibly someone else has and can help you. Maybe try installing the old sidewinder software to see if it detects it, otherwise perhaps the original model is incompatible with USB adapters now.

Nice video, can you share this CD? I have a gun, but not CD, is there any drivers on CD?
@ByteSizeThoughts9 күн бұрын
Hi mate, I sold this gun to another collector a while ago - however I remember that the drivers were on the game cd's too if I recall correctly. Try getting a copy of one of the games like Mad Dog McCree (probably can get an ISO off of the Internet Archive) and take a look around the Cd to see if it has the drivers for the gun. Best of luck!
@MAZterXP9 күн бұрын
Thank you for reply. Yes, I found couple CD with lightgun test program, but when I try to install games, I got message "REALMagic card not detected", other games doesn't contain gun test program and looks like works only with mouse
@ByteSizeThoughts9 күн бұрын
@@MAZterXP hmmm thats peculiar. I dont know what the REALmagic card is but looks like from a quick search that its a proprietary MPEG type decoder card? In any case the gun I had didnt need a special ISA card to work. I reckon I would try a few more ISO's if you can - try Crime Wave and the other Mad Dog Games, might take a while to get a working one ... otherwise perhaps start a thread on Vogons.org and see if anyone has the ISO there. Best of luck!

Microsoft likes to copy Sega. This controller is like Sega Saturn just like how original Xbox duke controller is like Dreamcast controller.

they had a bit of a thing for a while too, Windows CE to power the Dreamcast, and then later a lot of Sega games published on Xbox once the Dreamcast was discontinued :)

FINALLY someone that feels the same about V-Rally! Everyone was praising the graphics in its time but I could never get over the weird twitchy controls. I felt like an outsider being so put off by it Many game mags just called it "arcade'y" in its time but I just couldn't agree - good arcade-handling still feels controllable and looks & feels believable enough. Sega Rally shows best how that goes.
@ByteSizeThoughts20 күн бұрын
I know right - I still enjoy playing Sega Rally on the Saturn at 30FPS and it's still so much fun. Great gameplay is timeless.

I have been trying to run this game via DOSBOXX and it just keeps crashing all the time. Mostly in the base while talking to people. What am I doing wrong? Any chance I can get in touch with you?
@ByteSizeThoughts20 күн бұрын
Sorry, I havent tried this in Dosbox for years so can't remember exactly how to do it - though I dont think I ran into issues with crashes between missions. You cant do too much with Dosbox except for tweaking cycle time for the CPU I think... have you tried different versions of Dosbox?

Its the ram, I had the same computer with a dx2 66 and 16 mb of ram and played both doom and duke3d without any stutter
@ByteSizeThoughts20 күн бұрын
You could be right, this old motherboard used the older SIMM RAM - maybe it was having to fall back on the old hard drive and that was causing the stutters with the sounds.

Glad you figured it out and got it working! That basically how Quake ran on my old PC with this card. This brings back memories! The first time I saw OpenGL Quake with my Diamond Voodoo 3D first gen 4MB card I was BLOWN away! It was the first time ever seeing true 3D in my early PC gaming days. I had a lot of fun with my card and just listed it for sale. I didn't have Windows 95 or 98 to test it with now but I would of looked for Quake to test it!
@ByteSizeThoughts20 күн бұрын
Good luck with the sale - 3DFX cards have definitely climbed in price since Covid but they are very nostalgic. Its cool to revisit the hardware even though we have more power on our phones these days! Thanks for commenting and sharing your memories mate - Merry Christmas!

I think this had a lot of stuff in the start up files that could have been optimised and the original hard drive was a bottleneck. I did end up putting in a DX4 100 in it that made it run much better but have since rehomed this machine with another collector

Nice video on a classic. My first time going to the buisness section of PC World with my father and we bought top line executive multi media with TV and FM tuner card with record function. Its was something like £3000. Remember flight sim, C&C and worms. Also force feed back sidewinder and the free game where you fight off aliens and control tanks. Classic days of PCs, thank you for the memories.

@ByteSizeThoughts9 күн бұрын
sorry for delay - it is indeed tiny. I sold mine a while back so cant measure but from memory it was even smaller than my G27 wheel. Back then these were kinda toys compared to modern sim racing wheels :D
@benponsford27428 күн бұрын
@@ByteSizeThoughts Yeah, the G25/G27/G29 wheels are all 27cm in diameter, which I'm sure was larger than the older Momo series (I had both at one time). The Wingman Force Force (also from 1999) was just 25cm in diameter but the Sidewinder looks smaller again. I am making a database of wheels but sizes weren't so routinely listed for early hardware.

Does your model need the power supply? The ones with force feedback sometimes need the PSU to work properly. Alternatively try installing the old sidewinder drivers. I dont have my wheel any more unfortunately to try with modern sims. Best of luck getting it working - otherwise try to find an old logitech G27 or later wheel on marketplace cheap :)

NVidia demolished the competitors by choosing the right strategy of being a mere chip maker. Their rivals, Matrox and ATi had been making cards by their own, 3dfx and S3 bought STB and Diamond respectively.

I just got one for the princely sum of 3€ (plus 5€ shipping, but still) and it's perfect for old games that work with DirectInput and don't require analog sticks. The buttons feel great and it was immediately recognized in Windows 10, which I wasn't expecting. It's my go to for games released in the late 90's and very early 2000's.

Not that I know of specifically for American laser games. I think these MSDos games pre-date USB by a couple of years at least. It would be cool if the Sinden light gun (which is USB) could have an old justifier design like this but I reckon they dont want to create something that looks too similar to a real gun these days.

My first proper pc that i bought(not counting the 486 that was returned after a few weeks!) was the Pentium3 500, with Savage 4 3d 32meg gfx card, which then was upgraded to 700mhz, and finally to 933/133 with a slocket converter. Ram was doubled to 256meg, and gfx card upgraded to Geforce 2 Titanium. I sidestepped to the AMD AthlonXP, then back to Intel with the Pentium4 3.2, then Core2quad 2.4, and finally to Core i7-950 3.06ghz(which was then now upgraded to Xeon 6-core 3.33ghz)
@ByteSizeThoughts5 ай бұрын
Wow, you definitely got some mileage out of that first PC going from 500 to 933 and up to a Geforce 2 TI! The speed of change back then was mindblowing! Thanks for sharing.
@mbwoods20015 ай бұрын
@ByteSizeThoughts yeah, the pc had selectable speed and multiplier via jumpers, so worked out what was the fastest cpu the mobo could take, and with 7.5x multiplier and 66/100/133 bus speed in which i plumped for 933mhz coppermine socket 370 cpu that i got for reasonable price, plus a slocket converter. Also, when i went to buy it, initially had a 16meg TNT graphics, then on the day of purchase said it had a 32meg graphics which I thought was a TNT or TNT2 card, but was slightly disappointed that it wasnt an nvidia card but a Savage 4 3d card. I skipped a generation and went with the geforce 2 titanium when the geforce 3's arrived. At least i could play the latest games without having to break the bank!
