To get an honest failure rate, every 790/890 should have its valve cover pulled off and have the cams inspected. How many folks are riding around with compromised cams and don’t know it? It’s not until the first valve adjust at 18k miles that cams are inspected. I think the failure rate would be much higher. In my circle, I know 3 of 6 that had bad cams. The other 3 (including mine) have not had the valve cover off yet. My bike only had 2.5k miles on it.
@Phl_bКүн бұрын
Fair call on the incident rate. An inspection test would be more accurate, yes. But it's a simpl repair now dealers have stock, and it's covered by warranty. So, not an issue any more anyway

Like you, my previous bike was a 701 and I share the exact same opinion: my 701 was slightly better in the trails, but waaaay less versatile. I wanted an adventure bike that would be less tireing on long stretches of easier roads, but also capable on trails and the inevitable obstacle you will encounter. From my research the 890 fit the bill and after twoyears of ownership I can attest that the reputation is well founded, this bike is special, its my unicorn and I will keep it a long time.

I have been fortunate to own many bikes of all color and love my KTMs the best by far ! KTM isnt going anywhere , they might restructure , but they will be around for yrs to come. If you look at what they have done to the motorbike industry ,its crazy , they brought back 2 strokes , they made dual sport bikes cool again , and adventures bikes are the best out there , not to mention there street bikes ! lets face it the haters are going to hate , and so many online are keyboard heros that have no clue ! I appreciate your videos and your review ! heres to many more miles on our KTMs ! going to subscribe to your channel , look forward to more of your adventures ! cheers ~

We all need to make a decision that we're happy with Troy. And I for one, just love riding, so all power to anyone who is out there enjoying riding, on whatever bike. In my experience the bikes I've had have been faultless. As the admin of this forum, I see a lot of noise about the problem, but in reality the incidence of this problem is far less than the social noise would suggest. Why are you guys lying about it being 0.2% failure rate when KTM themselves said it is 05%...? Plus with an ongoing court case it came to light (which they were forced by the court) that the failure rate is WAY more. I myself had two engine failures in 14 months, had to buy a used engine that also failed prior to me purchasing it. It had double to triple the amount of services required and still failed. I know of numerous people with 790/890/901s with failures all with more than the required amount of services. Just because it didn't happen to yours doesn't mean it is not happening worldwide. And the fact that you are trying to play it down is a massive slap in the face to each person who had a failure and was mistreated by KTM.
@Phl_b22 күн бұрын
@jpwerth8610 not trying to play it down at all. I have read the 0.5 figure as well, but Chis is better informed than me. Sorry to hear about your bikes. Hopefully, you have a good dealer sorting them out for you.

If your engine failed despite having double or triple the services, that means your dealer NEVER checked the conditions of the cams in ANY of those services. It seems to be very common that people with ''failed engines'' can't do a camshaft inspection themselves. It's not even that complicated. How do you think people with 20 year old KTM's manage to keep their bikes running without dealer support?
@mortaygo120 күн бұрын
@JinKazama92 20 year old KTMs were not like these fragile heaps of junk
@blairknight779322 күн бұрын
My 790 Ad R failed at 30,900km in Dec 23 with twice the required services fully documented and Motorcycles R Us told me they only fail if they haven't been serviced, simultaneously they refused to allow me to produce my service records, they simply didn't want to even have the conversation. Haven't had one ??? Yeah right. The next KTM dealer was directed to take my bike in by KTM central, 2 weeks they claimed to repair it. 2 weeks turned to 4 weeks, that turned to 3 months, after the bike had been off the road for 6 months they were forced to buy my bike off me under Aussie Consumer Laws. My bike went into their shop and I never laid eyes on it again. After the papers were signed and ownership had officially been changed over they put the brakes on payment, 4 days went past before the office of Fair Trade stepped in ensuring Australian Consumer Law was upheld. Should I mention KTM tried to make my refund conditional upon my signing of an NDA which is a breach of consumer Law???? 2 days after I bought my new bike I crossed paths with 5 older lads at the Rathdowney corner store, 4 out the 5 had their KTM 790/890 Ad R fail, 1 had failed twice. Their treatment was similar to mine, they were extremely angry about their own experiences. Servicing doesn't matter with these, my oil and filters were changed every 5-8k of its life, had a Unifilter and 2 pre filters changed every second ride, it still failed. I'm now aware of 5 other cases on the east coast alone and also the discovery numbers from the court case in Europe have shown it's not 0.2 %.
@mortaygo122 күн бұрын
