Great video. Am thinking of doing a similar trip on my Norden 901 but am somewhat worried about the weight in the deep soft sand. I think I might do some test runs in Little Desert and Big Desert first and take it from there. Enjoyed your video and subscribed.

@Dids_901 Thanks very much. The 901 is an awesome machine, I just rode one through the Flinders Rangers in April. If you can handle the deep sand in Little Desert, you can handle the sand in the Simpson. Do it! 👌

@paullatsas5217 this is my second bike, and this one has ridden to the remote corners of Aus, with 50,000ks now on it. Biggest issue is keeping the smile off my face!

Bloody fantastic vid, very enjoyable. Made even better by a great choice of music which might not sound like a big thing but I’ve turned off a lot because I just can’t stand the music, anyway as a 890 r rider would love to do something like this one day & id better hurry up and as I’m on the wrong side of 60. Again very impressed show!

I did Big Red and an east-west Simpson crossing on my Postie. an 890 should be a doddle.

@@Phl_b Weight is your enemy in sand. The Simpson is becoming a traffic jam and I will never regret downgrading from a KLR to a Postie. Its rare that you can do much more than 80kph on dirt anyway. I can carry fuel for the whole crossing. Our club did a trans trek and the only breakdown was the Jeep that came with us for support.

Probably , but maybe have a chat to KTM first to make sure their Warranty agreement is up to date , because they tend to blame dusty air-cleaners for those camshaft metal fatigue problem.

As the Admin of the Aus KTM790/890/901 forum, I have never heard of KTM not taking responsibility for this issue. There was initially a bit of a wait on parts, but I think they have thiss issue well under control now mate. And might I add, the problem is nowhere near as common as you might think, due to all the noise you hear about it on socials. My bikes have all been bullet proof and my DLR's have always gone over and avove with everyone I know ;-)

The terrain you call hard, is bread and butter where I grew up and learned to ride. You need to go through it faster. You glide over things instead of fumbling and stalling. You can tell the riders that have never owned a big bore kick start bike before. You will die before you lay that big rig down.

I had the same 5L Mosko bags on the Perun side racks on my 890, I loved that setup. I'd consider having another, most likely a Rally this time around as it's the best bike in it's class, but the cam issues are becoming a major concern on these late models.

I put 35,000 ks on my 790 and my Rally is now at 45,000k's and still purrs like a kitten. I think the few cam issues that are out there have a dissproportionately loud voice.

Most of these bikes have 30,000+ ADV ks and most of us had 790s before the Rallys. Only one has had an issue that I'm aware of. Good odds in my book!
