Their members don't hide their influences/idols, there are many interviews where they state what music/artists they like and even hate, which got them in hot waters before.

I doubt Tuomas would mind people saying that the influence of Metallica or Slayer can be heard in some of his music. On the contrary, he's a big fan of Metallica, and most likely many other classic metal bands. Humans have created music for thousands of years, so it's a bit difficult to create something completely original. Musicians love music. They've been listening to loads of music before they start making it themselves, so it's inevitable that they've been influenced by their own favourites. It's an honour to be an influence to new artists that come after you. Plagiarism is, of course, another thing, but it's not even close to plagiarism when you can hear the influence. I also don't get it when people get so upset about comparing to another artist. Comparing Nightwish to eg. Evanescence or Within Temptation doesn't mean that Nightwish isn't it's own amazing thing. It's not a competition either. It's not necessary to rank some artists higher and some lower. Good music is good music, and everyone's taste is different.

IMO the video represents the ability of music, through musicians, to spread the message of the people, those that aren't listened to, to the masses in hope of spreading a hope or dream & to those that do have a voice or power to influence change. The original WAS a warning of disconnecting from each other & the need to connect while this version is a wake up shout (as you said) in anger that we have not listened to that (now) 60 year old warning & are now more disconnected than we have ever been & becoming even more disconnected while we ironically have the ability to be so much more connected so easily.

R.I.P Ann Waychoff mother of the Nightwish Army. June 28th, 2020 This is your song. If you ever have to explain the Groove in Metal to someone - play this tune. Until the Breakdown hits you with a 10 ton hammer it is all fun and games. But then the slow chugging monster with the machine gun riffing takes over. And for every Metal Head this lights up the day. Awesome….Imho one of the best songs ever. Sometimes the sky is piano black…. Floor Jansen, First of Her Name, Queen of the Valkyries and Stonehenge, Lady of Nightwish and Protector of our Metal Realm. Long may she reign. Bow, mortal !

Crucified? Why is that :D Tuomas has never made a secret of the fact that Metallica in particular has a big influence on the music he writes. A fairly well-known Metallica riff can even be heard in a certain Nightwish song. You are simply right :)

@@ReactADHD That's sad. I think the vast majority of your viewers here don't see it the same way as these few people. And in the end, this is your channel, this is about your opinion and what you take from this music and what it makes you feel. There is also hardly a band on this planet that is not influenced by another band or the music of other bands. This is how music develops over time. By the way, you're not the first Reactor to notice the Metallica "vibes" in some Nightwish songs - I've seen several who even picked it up pretty quickly. Tuomas (the composer and songwriter of Nightwish) mentions here, for example, that Metallica contributed to the Nightwish, whose music we can enjoy today: kzbin.info1UuuZH3Ia3I Greetings from Germany! 😄

@ReactADHD Take the negative comments with a grain of salt. I know it's important for a KZbinr to listen to their viewers but those who comment are a small part of the viewers. And like in all Internet comments, the negative ones are overrepresented. People find it too easy to criticise behind a nickname and sometimes even with their own name. If you take all the negative comments to heart, it will start effecting your style of doing reactions as you'll start to self censor. I've told you before that I like your enthusiastic and sincere reactions.

One of my top 5 favorite Nightwish songs. From the Imaginaerum album in which Anette Olzen was the female singer. I think she was underappreciated as a singer, I know that Floor is the better singer but I really liked her and she started my love for this band, I was not a fan of Tarja`s voice, which I`ll probably get a lot of hate from her fans. As always thanks for another great reaction.

It's neither Metallica nor Slayer, it's just metal basics. That's what makes them all metal bands. You'll find something similar with Black Sabbath or Judas Priest in the 1970s. That's the sound they started with and set them apart from hard rock. The metal style of the bands is different to the bands before and therefore makes it difficult to compare. You can't take a small piece out of context and say: It's the same. Every generation takes metal apart and puts it back together again, with new influences. That's why the Slayer/Metallica comparison doesn't work and that's why many metal fans from the 1980s say that today's metal is no longer metal. But it is, because the basics are the same. I'm not sure whether they/Tuomas have a playbook. I suspect that it only exists in Tuomas' head and goes from there directly into the synthesizer. He presents the demos to the others (band and orchestrator), they have time to think about it and then they make it "ready for the world". A lot of things will happen on demand, because in the final phase it's all about details. There will rarely be major changes that require a playbook. The song is part of the concept album / movie score Imaginaerum. The main character has become estranged from his daughter and, close to death, he writes down everything he always wanted to say to her but never did. It will be a work of art and he calls it Song of Myself. In the studio version, there is a collection of quotes that the father wanted to say to the daughter. The tinkling will be the music box that is on the father's piano, which is an important memory for both of them. Tuomas got the concept from the poem of the same name by the American author Wittman, the content is different. Unfortunately, they only played it on this tour and today Floor is missing the right male counterpart.

Pretty much every Nightwish fan knows exactly who inspired them, because Tuomas has always communicated this very clearly publicly. Is it necessary to interrupt the video every 2 seconds to comment on this point? Tuomas got his inspirations but raised the origin to a completely different level, so that only Metallica can come close to Nightwish.

I know sometimes the fans get weird about comparisons, but Tuomas is very open about his influences and the musical artists he takes inspiration from. As I've mentioned, he was inspired to go into metal in the first place specifically because he went to a Metallic and Guns n' Roses concert as an exchange student in the US during high school! There's a specific nod to an iconic Metallica riff in "The Greatest Show On Earth" as well! You're right, it's about how Tuomas takes these things and combines them, and there is absolutely a signature Sound in his work! This is a fantastic song and I'm surprised no one has mentioned yet that it's based on/inspired by the 1855 poem "Song of Myself" by Walt Whitman. It's considered one of the most influential pieces of American poetry. It was an overall thematic influence on the entire album this came from, but this song very specifically. Honestly there is very much a lot of thematic stuff in Whitman's work and philosophy that you can see as influential on Nightwish as well!

Great reaction as usual!! Please remember that Ren is not well and he may look ripped but what you see is actually a sign of a person who is chronically ill and and it is truly a body dealing w/Malnutrition as he can only eat fresh meat and a handful of veggies. He recently learned his body can handle Rice so hopefully a carb can help him be more healthy and gain some weight. Can't wait for more releases of the tracks on his new album❤
