RIP Carl Ruocco. A great director and a great contributor to so many different drums corps over the years.

My high school (Shikellamy, Sunbury, PA) used an arrangement of that for eight years (four of which I was in) as its parade piece. For eight years, we NEVER lost a parade competition.

Slightly different arrangement stolen shamelessly by my high school band in Central Pennsylvania. Our exclusive parade number for eight years... and we NEVER lost a parade playing Russian Christmas Music!

The guard soloist in the beginning of mvmt 2 is my color guard coach. She, to this day, talk about the trumpet soloist was like 6ft tall and she looked tiny compared to him.

The other day I was humming this while walking down to band class and at least 10 people either said “hey that’s earth song” or they started humming it too. I love the way this song sounds and how well the entire core played this year.

This was before DC I turned it into a marching band competition, superimposed on a three ring circus. We no longer have real drum and bugle Corps. May they all rest in peace. Drum Corps International should change, to marching band International. Just call it what it really is today.
