Hey man, I love playing your barbershop tags on my keyboard and this one was an especially fun one. Its quickly becoming one of favorites just because of how simple and fun it is. I also just love unison moments in barbershop because you don't hear them very often.

Oddly enough, aside from the high D at the end (which unfortunately is pretty close to the edge of my range depending on the day), I found the tenor part the easiest to record! But I'm sure having sung it hundreds of times while writing it probably had a pretty big impact haha. Thanks for listening as always! :)

what kind of note writing program believes that a flat is too high for a first tenor or even any tenor?

Barbershop is a cool genre. Why does tuning not seem to be a priority?
@ursamajor46843 ай бұрын
because you're used to 12-tone equal temperament. their intervals are actually more accurate
@KyleHottel3 ай бұрын
the irony here is tuning is MORE of a priority in Barbershop than in most other genres. Barbershop is based on pure intervals that lock into a root pitch, instead of a tempered system where all the notes are equidistant from each other
@chrisr18623 ай бұрын
Tuning is a priority for most quartets, just not Masterpiece lol (kidding of course, they’re world champs)

The lyrics are somber to say the least. “Happy Days are here Again” didn’t make it. You say it’s not personal but they sure sound like it. One thing for sure, your harmonies have become complex while the written notes have a much more defined movement. You are making incredible progress. All I can say is WOW!
@ryancomposition4 ай бұрын
Haha yeah funnily enough after I had mentioned that my lyrics weren't personal I started to make more of the connection myself that the lyrics are incredibly personal and rode with it! I'm really happy with the direction my writing is going in even if the writing process is super slow. Thank you so much for your support through all my videos, it means the world! :)

Nice work! What is influencing the advanced composition of barbershop chord progressions and resolutions much less the vocal dialogue? ❤
@ryancomposition4 ай бұрын
Honestly I'm not too sure what I'm writing anymore. I feel like I've been riding the line of barbershop and I've grown less comfortable calling it that since it's a weird gray area. The last two pieces I put out I honestly can't remember the inspiration since I wrote them a while ago, just never got around to recording them. I know now I'm working on something that I'm leaning towards releasing that has been a product of a bunch of barbershop that I've been listening to paired with non-barbershop music.

I know it’s a little late to comment but the lyrics coupled with the music sound really personal. I hope I’m wrong.
@ryancomposition5 ай бұрын
When I write music I'm not really writing a story or anything. I just go where my ear takes me harmony/melody wise and sort of throw on lyrics where they fit so none of the music I write is super personal :)
