It is 7 km from the Gen Osmond Intersection to Black Forest on the South Road is the shortest route the tunnels being built under South Rd. The M7 Clem Jones Tunnel (CLEM7), known during its development as the North-South Bypass Tunnel (NSBT) in Brisbane is a model of what should and should not be done. With a length of 4.8 km (3.0 mi) it was the longest road tunnel in the country until the 6.7 km (4.2 mi) Airport Link tunnel was completed The road tunnels in Brisbane are private Toll Roads and as a result are often called "Brisbane Empty Tunnels". In Adelaide the 2 road tunnels currently being built under South Road are NOT TOLL ROADS and should be very popular

A recent trip to this site revealed the Multi-Modal Rail Yard has been removed. No more small freight arrive or departing from inner Port.Adelaide. No more freight trains. The yards along the wharves on the East Bank of the Port River were full of wind turbine blades.. All the rail tracks up to the Flinders Ranges have been removed The only trains now will be going through to the Outer Harbor and the proposed Nuclear Submarine construction at Osborne. Is that a miraga? I will be a 110 when the laying down of the first keel is scheduled to happen.

The Rail Underpass at Diagonal Rd next to the Oakland Station was started in June 2018 following the March 2018 Election where the Weatherall ALP Govt lost to the Marshall Liberals. The Marshall Government sort to leverage the success of the Level Crossing Removal on Diagonal Road with a plan to remove the Level Crossing on Brighton Road. Sadly they could not decide if the railway was to go into a cutting as at Diagonal Road or have the Rail as an Overpass as at Marion Road. They were opting for a Rail Overpass. The land acquisitions on either side of the right of way were confronted by some tenants in Public Housing alongside the track. In the end they decided to do nothing - even though most of the money would have come from the Federal Government.

Quetion: Who would pay for this "pipe dream"? Answer: Abolish all LGA's in Great Adelaide (Victor Harbor to Barossa and Glenelg to Murray Bridge) and create a Greater Adelaide Authority. In 1924, the Queensland State Parliament passed the City of Brisbane Act to set up a single government in Brisbane. Before this, the Brisbane area had been divided up into 20 local authorities and joint boards. Brisbane City Council is busy delivering Australia's most modern public and active transport, including the Brisbane Metro. We operate one of the largest bus fleets in Australia, along with the iconic CityCat and Cross River ferry network Cross River Rail is a new 10.2km rail line that includes 5.9km of twin tunnels running under the Brisbane River and CBD; with four new underground stations at Boggo Road, Woolloongabba, Albert Street and Roma Street. Cross River Rail is already well into in delivery. Construction of Cross River Rail is due to be completed in 2025, ahead of extensive safety testing and commissioning, with services expected to commence in 2026. crossriverrail.qld.gov.au/ Brisbane's Cross River Rail will now cost $6.3 billion. In 2000, following a local referendum, the Greater London Authority (GLA) was created, and derives most of its powers from the Greater London Authority Act 1999 and the Greater London Authority Act 2007. It is a strategic regional authority, with powers over transport, policing, economic development, and fire and emergency planning. Three functional bodies-Transport for London, the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime, and the London Fire Commissioner. Transport for London (TfL) TfL is compleiting the Crossrail, This is a railway construction project centred around London. Its aim is to provide a high-frequency hybrid commuter rail and rapid transit system crossing the capital from suburbs on the west to east, by connecting two major railway lines terminating in London: the Great Western Main Line and the Great Eastern Main Line. The project was approved in 2007, and construction began in 2009. The Elizabeth line in honour of Queen Elizabeth II who opened the line on 17 May 2022 during her Platinum Jubilee. The central section of the line between Paddington and Abbey Wood opened on 24 May 2022, with 12 trains per hour running in each direction through the core section in Central London. When the Elizabeth line became fully operational in May 2023, the new nine-carriage Class 345 trains started to run at frequencies in the central section of up to 24 trains per hour in each direction through the central core, after which services divide into two branches en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossrail The total estimated cost rose from an initial budget of £14.8 billion to £18.8 billion by December 2020.

What's the story with funding?
@Highbury5089
@Highbury5089 7 ай бұрын
Hi Michael. All politics is local. Around 30% of the freight in the Adelaide Hills is local. Local people want to move around the region for work or pleasure via public transport Greater Adelaide with 11,000 sqkm is about the same size as the 10,570 sq km of the County of Los Angles Within LA County there are a number of Cities and other Local Government Authorities. The citizens of LA County has voted for a series of Propositions.that are separate from voting for elected officials. Similar to our referendum process, First of the these was Proposition A "Approved by voters in November 1980, Proposition A is a half-cent sales tax dedicated to transportation funding and was the first of its kind to address transportation challenges in LA County." "Proposition A has funded transportation projects, improved bus service, initiated plans for a rail system that continues to be expanded today and helped subsidize fares. The Proposition A expenditure plan includes 3 categories: 25% to Local Return Programs, 35% to rail development and 40% to discretionary" Over the years this has funded many projests in LA County A prime example being the Red Line underground heavy rail dual track passenger line kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZupepSco9Sde7c The section between North Hollywood and Hollywood Bolevvard goes under the Hollywood Hills similar to the Adelaide Hills at Mt Lofty. In South Australia the referendum could be timed to occur with the election day of our fixed term SA parliaments, This long term levy would not be on the SA State Budget. The authority to which the funding is being directed would be able to use the provisions of the levy to borrow money for the projects the voters has endorsed. The borrowings would not be on the SA State Budget

@@michaelclement1337 It will take people in State Parliament to Pass and Act that would help to identify the public transport projects that should be given long term funding and the way that his money should be raised.. We did it currently with the environment. SA Parliament has passed laws that requires LGA's to collect a Levy on their rates to be pass over to the various Land and Environment Boards. Portion of extra Land tax on ALL properties, including DOMESTIC properties in Greater Adelaide going direct to identified projects in Greater Adelaide. This matter being voted upon by the voters in Greater Adelaide.

You’re looking at moving populations much larger than our own - and your speed limit data is not particularly accurate. All we really need is the metro line converted to standard gauge and connected to the ARTC network. The Belair/Melbourne line has limited freight traffic through the day and thus could facilitate the operation of passenger trains around freight trains. We don’t need high speed, we just need reliable.
@Highbury5089
@Highbury5089 7 ай бұрын
Hi Kanes Trains, Thank you for your comments, "we just need reliable.". The current crop of politicians in South Australia run a million miles from rail infrastructure. Because "All politics is local" any attempt to improve the existing rail tracks between Keswick and Murray Bridge brings forth a maelstrom of protest from local residents. The squeal of steel wheels going around the sharp bends and memory of the bush fire started by sparks from the train brakes lives in the memory of local voters. Particularly for those whose houses were burnt down. The 2 tracks between Keswick and Belair Junction does not help. The single Broad Guage Track reverting to the 5 passing loops as a means of movement in both directions. This track being "owned" by the Adelaide Metro (SA Government). The single standard gauge track between Keswick and Murray Bridge having about 5 passing loops long enough to handle the length of "modern" freight trains. This track is now owned by a "private company", ARTC. with the Australian Government owing the one single share in that company. Extra locos being added for the trip through the Adelaide Hills. There are around 100 level crossings between Keswick and Murray Bridge. I suggest that mixing Freight and Commuter Trains is no longer regarded as desirable. Witness Western Sydney where huge amounts of money has been spent untangling these 2 disparate systems. In that case the NSW Government has kept ownership of ALL track within that state. ARTC is "licensed" by the NSW Government to manage the day to day movement on the mainline tracks. SO the logical solution is get the commuters into an O-Bahn with dual tracks from around Bridgewater to Grenfell Street. The O-Bahn is 100% Grade Separate from Modbury to Gilberton and has a tunnel from Hackney to East Terrace. The rubber tires can handle steeper grades - the climb up from Paradise Interchange to Holden Hill at Junction Road being an prime example why steel wheel trains were never implemented between Victoria Square and Modbury. Rubber tires are much quieter The O-Bahn is so popular it has 100% fare box recovery. .

Hi David The budget for infrastructure is provided by National, State and Local sources. It is where suburbs have developed a community that tunnels are "cheaper" than buying the surrounding suburb and destroying it to make way for a new road. The 2.2km of twin three-lane tunnels with a portal in Ashwin Parade in Thebarton and the other portal in Frederick Street in Hilton means the community above are preserved. Nothing is destroyed at surface level. Similarly the 4km of twin three-lane tunnels between the portal at Forest Ave in Glandore and the portal Celtic Ave in St Marys means the community above are preserved. Nothing is destroyed at surface level. However the middle section between the 2 tunnels will see a massive purchase of private land and business to make way for barren roadways. NSW in Sydney has gone overboard with toll roads. Citizens and private businesses are continually paying each day to drive their vebicles on the roads,

Hi Sam "All Politics is local" in the suburbs their is an average of one car for every adult. So the voters want faster / more convenient car travel. The suburban shopping centres with the parking at the shop door has diminished the importance of the Square Mile to most people in the Metropolitan Adelaide. The rate payers of the City of Adelaide will need to be funding the building of the rail tunnels. They are the ones who will benefit the most from such a project.

As the matter you have raised falls within my portfolio responsibilities as Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, the Premier has asked that I respond on his behalf. I appreciate the time you have taken to provide feedback on timetables and I acknowledge that there may not always be inconvenient scheduling between buses and aircraft arriving or departing. Notwithstanding, asked the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (the Department) for advice. The Department acknowledges the benefits some passengers would receive by introducing additional operating hours on these bus services, however, this would require additional resourcing or the reallocation of funding from other bus routes across the network. This cannot be justified at this time due to the low patronage demand experienced on these services I am advised that given the variable times that planes arrive and depart from the airport, it is difficult to provide a bespoke service to all potential travellers. As you are aware, there are also J1 and J2 bus services, which also provide services to the Adelaide Airport stop for South Australians travelling from the northern and north-eastern suburbs. As you can appreciate, the service planning process involves designing a bus network which benefits the maximum amount of people with resources allocated where they are most needed. Thank you once again for your interest in public transport services. Yours sincerely Signed 22 / September /2023

No the "Setup" has been removed. The traffic lights however are still there in new positions. The Intersection now has South Road at ground level running in either side of the M2 (North South Motorway) which is in a cutting. A lot of the original buildings around the intersection were demolished to make room for the roadways at ground level. With 4 slip lanes the intersection at ground level is even more complicated set of traffic lights than original. The same system was used at the Port Road and Torrens Road Intersections with South Road to build the M2. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXvYZHWCf9Wbm7s

A roundabout with traffic lights
@Highbury5089
@Highbury5089 10 ай бұрын
Yes - We in Adelaide have our traffic lights linked on major roads so traffic can be put into "platoons" A big computer and workers in Norwood control all the lights. Using Sydney Co-ordinated Adaptive Traffic System (SCATS) adelaideaz.com/articles/centre-keeping-24-hour-watch-and-control-of-traffic-movement-in-adelaide-metro-area Cars with the roundabout have priority over cars wanting to enter the roundabout. The problem with Roundabouts is they need approximately equal flows on each of the feeder roads. Unequal flows means the minor road would get few opportunities to get into the round-about. The South Rad , Manton Street & Grange Road intersection had the bridge being built in the middle of the intersection to go over the road cutting that they were building. So the traffic lights were moved to all the construction behind the fence to proceed. Just business as usual with the 4 stes of traffic lights moved to one side.

Hon Peter Malinauskas MP Dear Premier Thank you recent for the letter of the 22nd instant from your Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Hon Tom Koutsantonis MP, regarding my earlier KZbin video regarding giving Airport-workers J1 access in the early morning. Please see below a link to a KZbin video released earlier today. Lyell McEwin Health Precinct evening travel using Cross City J1 Bus Metropolitan Adelaide Sept 2023 Video * The J1 Bus is not just a bus to the Airport. As a Cross City Bus it serves a diversity of communities in its journey. * J1 Bus is the bus link between Lyell McEwin Health Precinct in Elizabeth Vale and the 103,000 people living in the City of Tea Tree Gully and beyond. * The J1 bus is the only one-seat trip between the CBD and Lyell McEwin Health Precinct that is consistently available. Other bus routes only operate briefly during rush periods. * Lyell McEwin Hospital is a training hospital for Doctors, Nurses and related Professionals who benefit by using a rapid, one seat and Cross City trip. * Calvary Health Hub Stage 2 - Medical & Specialist Centre is nearing completion. The modern and multi-use 3 level medical office building will be suitable for specialist and associated health services such as pharmacies, radiation oncology, pathology, occupational health services and specialist consulting. * Calvary Health Hub Stage 3 - Private Hospital With its proximity to Lyell McEwin Public Hospital, the private hospital will complete the precinct and deliver services to an ever growing population. The new co-located private hospital will be operated by Calvary Health Care, with provision for eight operating theatres and up to 120 day and overnight beds. * Week-nights , there are no J1 buses from Lyell McEwin Health Precinct to take people back to Golden Grove , Modbury and beyond. * J1 takes 22 minutes between Lyell McEwin Health Precinct and Golden Grove, 30 minutes to Modbury, The alternative bus trip in the evenings involves travelling on 3 bus routes * A 9:00 pm departure involves waiting until the 9:13 pm (correction) for the 400 Bus on John Rive Ave. Change at Salisbury IC to the 502 bus to Paradise.IC Change at Paradise IC to the J2 Bus for a 10:13 pm arrival at Modbury ICC or a 10.21 pm arrival at Golden Grove IC. * The Torrens Valley International Residence situated in the grounds of Modbury Hospital, Smart Road, Modbury, has 284 single rooms and offers clean, secure, accommodation at affordable rates. The accommodation is available to patient’s families, SA Health staff and international and local students. These people would find it difficult in the evenings to return here from Elizabeth Vale. * Visiting hours at LMH probably finish around 9:00pm. Nursing and Ancillary Staff would be leaving some time after 9:00 pm. Those living in the North East and Eastern Suburbs would find difficulties return home in the evenings. If we look at the DOWN and UP time-tables we see DOWN timetable runs past LMH until 10.02 pm week nights. Sadly the UP timetable has 6:31 pm being the lost bus that passing LMH. It is suggested the 4 of the DOWN buses to Elizabeth IC match with UP buses already scheduled to run from Golden Grove IC or Teat Tree Plaza IC. This would give an hourly service past the LMH unit 10:37 pm. (Image of UP and DOWN J1 Bus evening timetables inserted at this point) Sadly we do not have TAP OFF implemented in Adelaide Public Transport so we cannot implement Fare Zones. Cross City Bus Routes should be priced at a higher amount to Local Bus Routes. It is suggested that our current Fare Box Recovery at 20% is hardly sustainable. NOt much has changed in Adelaide since 2016 with regards to level crossings removal. The Weatherill ALP in 2018 had a election policy of creating a "Level Crossing Removal Authority" similar to that in Victoria They lost the election and abandoned that idea for the next election The Liberal success at the 2018 had the promise to deal with 4. Torrens Road, Ovingham (18 incidents) was been completed earlier this year. Started by the Marshall Liberals after their 2018 success. They also promised the removal of the level crossing 6. Jetty Road, Brighton (15 incidents) The could not decide to go over or under. Then decided to forget the whole idea. Meantime in Sydeny, Melbourne, Brisbane & Perth they are getting rid of rail crossings by building rail tunnels. Malinauskas ALP won the last election with the promise to get rid of the Marion Road and Cross Road Level Crossings dit.sa.gov.au/infrastructure/public_transport_projects/tram_grade_separation_projects/marion_cross "Early works on and around local roads will continue until late 2023. This will include local site clearing and demolition works, which started in July 2023" dit.sa.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0010/1272547/MAC-Project-Update-September-2023.PDF "We will be holding further community drop-in sessions in early 2024, following completion of the contractor procurement process and prior to commencement of major construction. Dear Premier Below is a a link to a recently released video Cross City J1 Bus Greater Adelaide in early morning September 2023 video Passengers departing from Adelaide International Airport are required to arrive at the Terminal at 03:30 am for their 06:00 departures. Currently the first J1, Cross-City, bus arrives at 04:56. This is far too late to be of any use to those passengers. Many airport workers would benefit with a 03:00 am arrival for the J1 Bus. It is suggested buses should be scheduled in the early morning, 7 days a week. The J1 Bus also currently visits the Health Precinct around the Lyell McEwen Hospita (LMH) & interfaces with the Gawler Line at Elizabeth Interchange. It is suggested the route for the J1 within the City Square Mile should divert at Pultney Street to run along North Terrace. This would all all train passengers to use a bus stop at Adelaide Railway Station. The J1 could then continue along North Terrace to the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH). This would help patients, visitors and staff who go and depart from the RAH at all hours of the day and night. A small diversion of the J! route at Modbury would allow similar benefits for the patients, visitors and staff at Modbury Hospital (MH). Regards Neil Hamilton Address supplied

The 2007 Mitcham Council Rail Freight Task Force study is still the best option. A freight bypass from Murray Bridge via Callington and Sedan to Mallala with a major highway running along side for road transport and those travelers who want to avoid Adelaide metropolitan area. Much of the route is already government owned being old SAR lines and on flat country. This would be far cheaper than the ridiculous cost of a tunnel that still directs freight ultimately through Adelaide. 80% of freight just travels through Adelaide to and fro from Perth. Small freight trains can carry the 20% destined for Adelaide from Mallala. There have always been vested interests stopping this project by plucking stupid inflated cost estimates "out of the air". The Alice to Darwin line cost about $1M a kilometer. So an 80km bypass would be affordable and quick to build. Options such as new bus routes are a 1950s solution and ignore the fact that road traffic and rail freight is only going to increase in the future. The potential for derailing of freight trains is ongoing and would block major railway crossing access for emergency vehicles through Belair and Blackwood on a catostrophic risk fire day.

Sadly any politician who tried to do what you suggest would loose the next election, A certain Minister of Transport planned to do something similar with buses. - speed-up the buses by removing most of the bus stops. The idea lasted about 3 days and was never implemented. He did not stand for re-election. A more serious suggestion is implement passing loops at all stations. This is the significant design feature of the Adelaide O-Bahn Busway. This is done on the High Speed Railways in Japan France and China. Express trains can run a full speed for their whole trip because the local trains are on the loop at the stations as the Express Train goes straight through. The O-Bahn in Cambridgeshire does not have this design feature.

They are the group that decides the pricing , ticketing and scheduling policy that are implemented by the contractors. The first J8 Bus via Arndale Centre Interchange to the Airport leaves Arndale at 9:06 am and arrives at the Airport at 9:36 am, Whilst the first flights will have departed at 6:00 am and the majority of morning flights would have departed by 9:30am A good number of people living along the J8 route would be employees at the airport. I reckon a TRAM - TRAIN. (A Tram that can also run on Train lines) would work because then it could convert the existing Rail lines out to Grange & Outer Harbour as well as the O-bahn via an inner city Tunnel & then it could also extend by running along existing Streets between Tea Tree Plaza & Golden Grove. It would be a high capacity version of the Light Rail system with longer Tram Rolling stock. I call it the Adelaide MTS (Mass Transit System)

@@Highbury5089 Actually to cut costs, it could run on street in Adelaide, on Grenfell Street, which would be transformed into a pedestrian-friendly corridor much like burke street mall in Melbourne. Meanwhile, out in the suburbs on both the Grange and Outer Harbour as well as on the O-Bahn, they would run as fast as trains. And it will be different from Adelaide's existing Trams because they would be longer. As long as a 4-car train or 3 existing trams are coupled. It would be built in 2 phases: Phase 1 would be from the CBD - Tea Tree Plaza via the O-Bahn Busway, whilst Phase 2 would see the Grange & Outer Harbour lines finally converted. Phase 3 would see the long awaited extension between Tea Tree Plaza & Salisbury Station on the Gawler Line. This would run via Golden Grove, which is an important community hub in the growing North West suburbs of Adelaide. Not only would this guarantee better service for Port Adelaide Residents, but it would also upgrade stations and replace ageing diesel trains. In addition, it would also improve service for North East residents with additional stations added along the O-Bahn making Public Transport more accessible for more residents. This would be a game-changer for Adelaide.

Agreed about running busways 7 days a week. Busways, O-Bahn, light rail, metro etc each require massive injections of capital funds which then in most cases then preclude other forms of transport when one is adopted and therefore have to continue in service longer after they can no longer meet demand, or they stop rezoning to higher densities. We need more flexibility to allow upgrades with heavier loads from Busways to heavy rail. Infrastructure built for such as Auckland's Northern Busway was excellent for the time but with increasing population north of Auckland, it needs to be turned into a light rail corridor and ultimately heavy rail. Was the infrastructure built for these transitions? Certainly not for heavy rail but maybe light rail? Was the Adelaide O-Bahn (Northern Busway) built to transition to light rail? Were the pile foundations built for heavy rail? Governments take the absolute cheapest option on Infrastructure. There is no thought for the next generation or the one after that..... We only have politicians, not statesmen & stateswomen.

Hi, Thanks for your comments. Are Bi-articulated buses the next method to increase passenger capacity? Brisbane City Council is getting 60 electric bi-articulate buses that can run on the existing bus-ways. About $A1.5 billion cost. A Swiss design? They can also run on normal roadways. I looked again at Auckland's Northern Busway that you mentioned. They are using lots of double-deck buses. Cambridgeshire Guided Busway (O-Bahn) in the U.K. also uses double deck buses. This may limit their use in Road Tunnels. It certainly is not user friendly to climb up to the top deck. We still have one double deck bus in Adelaide that goes to Mt Barker along the SE Feeeway - a BRT when it is on the Freeway, We use to have double deck Trolley Buses when I was young. "Was the Adelaide O-Bahn (Northern Busway) built to transition to light rail?" The Adelaide O-Bahn replaced a proposal by the Dunstan Government for Light Rail (Glenelg Tram) to get to Modbury via a Tunnel from Victoria Square to North Terrace under King William St. The problem being elevation for Modbury means steel wheeled vehicles have difficulty getting up the steep slope on North Side of the River Torrens above Campbelltown. This was going to be via a longer route. The ALP Government's "Light Rail" (Street-car / Tram) proposal was opposed by citizens living in the inner suburbs who did not want trams running every 90 seconds down their suburban streets. The Tonkin Government used a simplification of the Paris Under Ground Trains that are rubber-tired with guide wheels on each of the chassis. "Governments take the absolute cheapest option on Infrastructure." The O-Bahn was not cheap. There are six bridges over the River Torrens between Gilberton and Kelmzig Station. All this to avoid the private homes in St Peters and Gilberton. The O-Bahn has absolute grade separation along its whole length. The Bannon Government with John Klunder as Minister of Transport extend the O-Bahn development, started by the Tonkin Government, from its initial planned terminus at Kelmzig Station to Modbury Interchange via Paradise up the slope at Dernancourt and Hope Valley. Since then the Adelaide O-bahn the buses can get from College Park to East Terrace via a bus-way tunnel under the East Parklands. The Marshall Government won a recent election with the promise of building a rail tunnel under the CBD to link the North and South Suburban Rail lines, Sadly they erased the promise from their web-site after winning the election. They lost the next election.

Yes, but Passenger and Freight should no be mixed. Norway has done this in hard rock mountains similar that of the Adelaide Hills. * The mix of gauges down the Sleeps Hill means we have 2 single tracks. If we tried to use dual gauge, broad and standard gauges, we have serious problems when fast trains go over the switches. * The other problem is the S.A. government in the Whitlam & Dunstan era "sold" the country main rail tracks and the associated trains to the Federal Government. The Federal Government created two separate entities to hand each of these activiites The tracks management became the ARTC whose headquarters are here in Adelaide. So Canberra and our Federal MPs are the group who should be making the improvements.

Hi Max. I think issue of bus shelters and related matters such as public toilets involves Local Government. This is mentioned in the letter from the Minister of Transport that I quote the City of Playford is requesting review of the East Side of Haydown Road. I suggest the Marion LGA was very active in the resolution of public transport along Flinders Drive that lead to the FMC Bus Station. I tihink the O-Bahn toilets are in a major part of Adelaide Metro infrastructure and are a "State Government" matter.

G'day Neil. I imagine it would be way too hard for most to get to the 24-hour transport spines, when all of the local feeder services have shut down for the night. It would be way more than a one-hour walk to/from the Salisbury interchange for me without the local bus service. My pet hate was when the Rann government took away the last couple of services of my local bus (which ran through Mike's own electorate). I used to go to my local watering hole Friday night for a few pints and catch the last couple of sets of the band, and back on the 12:30am home. After the 'Rann Axe' the last bus was going past at 10:30pm and I had to be out at the bus stop before the band even really got going. Either that or a 40+ minute walk home (a cab was at least a 2-hour wait). :( Thanks for your video content, I might not always agree with you 100% but your arguments are cogent and thought out, unlike many pundits. Dear Premier Video: Improving passenger experience on Gawler Line in Metropolitan Adelaide May 2023 The video above suggests the passenger experience on the Gawler Line would be improved if trains stopped at every station. The travel time would be increased slightly. The 3 car electric trains have greatly increased the capacity on the Gawler Line and there is no advantage in skipping stations. * What should be a 15 minute frequency service becomes a 30 minutes service * What should a simple decision of catching the next train becomes a "night-mare" of catching the wrong train and going straight past the intended destination station. 3 car Electric Trains are to become the standard. You can move the whole length of the train. The previously used Diesel Electric had dangerous connectors between cars and passengers where only allowed to move between cars when the train was at a station. Police Officers were often in the cars to enforce the rule. At that time Adleaide Metro was able to run 1 and 2 car trains in the off-peak periods to avoid the cost of monitoring cross-overs between carriages. In the video the train running around 14:00 on a week day was about 1/3rd capacity. It seems rather strange to have partly occupied trains passing stations with waiting "customers" and condemming them to a 30 minute wait between trains. The other issue is getting between stations is difficult with the current "partial express" system during the week days.. The stopping pattern means students living near Womma or Broadmeadosw who goes to school near Ovingham needs to catch 2 separate trains. The students at an Ovingham School show up in one of my earlier videos.. (I try to avoid videoing students) Ovingham is also the station to get to the Regional Aquatic Centre at the top of Torrens Rd. (Walk or catch the bus) UP Trains from Womma NEVER Stop at Ovingham Week-days after 6:57 or before 18:47 If you catch the 7:38 UP from Womma you need to change trains at Elzabeth IC because that train does NOT stop at Ovingham. From what Ive been told the Gawler Line timetable is being overhauled once the full set of electric trains that were ordered enter passenger service then you can probably expect to see a majority of the services become all stoppers in the new timetable as electric trains have a higher top speed and can accelerate faster. The stopping pattern in the current timetable favours diesel trains which is why they havent touched it yet but once the Gawler line is running all electric trains they can implement a timetable thats more designed for electric trains.
