It always winds me up when sports commentators say a goal was saved by the woodwork when the ball hits the post or bar. How? The post didn’t move sideways or the bar up on down. I’m English so I’m not sure if this translated that well for American sports.

That gave me a couple good chuckles! I did have a traumatic experience with the precursor " Don't take this personally". When I was in grade school, a girl that was popular asked me over to her house. I was very happy and felt honored to go. Later she told me, " Don't take this personally, but my mom thinks you're homely" I was crushed! I felt I was very ugly for a long time after that.
