No one needs insurance anyways! Not invasive insurance like this! Corporate mess with these companies. Once bought, contract signed they have no right for tracking no matter terms nd conditions. Same as my phone and other equipment! One thing to hide ur programming from theft and copycats companies another to steal nd spy on you to drop you any company car Phone tv nd so on spying without consent or due process is a violation of American rights.

Technology that is sold "to help you" almost always comes back to make your life more problematic and stressful. 💯

Automakers are doing all this instead of developing more advanced anti-theft technology to make their vehicles less easy to steal. Thank you for showing your complete lack of ethics and self-serving priorities.

Every driver needs to hear? Not. The newest personal vehicle I drive is 34 years old, and the other two are older than that. So suck it.

People drive like maniacs. You are covered by insurance in accidents where you are at fault. If they correlate your driving with risk, your premium should go up. Maybe it would incentive actually learning to drive like a normal person

This isn't new. It's been going on for years. I last heard about it at the time when GM discontinued support for analog OnStar units in their vehicles. I took the opportunity to physically disconnect the unit in my vehicle. GM can't track you via OnStar if the unit is disconnected from its wiring harness and antenna.

And the insurance companies are doing the same.

Another reason not to buy a new car. Why I just bought a clean 1998 Subaru Impreza wagon. No fancy gadgets but no car payments or insurance schemes.
@mtbwill6922 сағат бұрын
Cut the wire to the antenna. Problem solved. You should drive your car, not make it an internet hotspot with it connected to the world. The rule I follow, if it didn't come with an ash tray then I don't want it. Not to say I use the ash tray for anything other than loose change but a vehicle without an ash tray is too new for me. They can't be tracked, shut down, hacked or any number of other things over tech brings you. My 24 year old truck starts, drives, is quite comfortable, very dependable, keeps me warm/cool & dry and hauls things when I need it to. What else do you really need?
@donwilliams460222 сағат бұрын
I watched a news special about this almost a year ago and GM said they stopped doing this back then. I got my Lexis Nexis report and it had a record of every time I drove the car. It said that every time I drove it there was a hard braking event and there were none. Cadillac made it very difficult to disable. If I pulled the fuse it would also kill the radio and to get to the module for the cellular connection I would have to take out half of the interior. I ended up getting rid of the car. I'll never buy another GM product again.

Nobody should be surprised by this. Years ago, California gave itself legislative authority to gather mandatory GPS data on CA registered vehicles, so as to develop a tax-per-mile program for CA drivers. I will never buy a car with GPS or internet that I cannot disable myself.

Not that surprising modern vehicles are modern computers, if automakers could sell data to insurance companies why wouldn’t they? It fattens there pockets while hurting the consumer, insurance companies will pull everything they can to deny or cancel policy’s.
