This is the way jiu-jitsu instructionals need to be filmed. -Right into the action -No 5 minute intro with 2 dudes sitting on the mat explaining the history of the kimura -Multiple angles/options Well done !

The most useless sport for street self defense award goes to BJJ sadly.

@@newtonwetter8802 The last place you will ever want to be on a street fight is the ground. All that BJJ technique goes out the window the moment someone is kicking your head in or is hell bent to gouge your eyes out or grab your balls or even worse use a sharp blade. BJJ is not for the streets unfortunately

You can definitely escape. When im in the semi-closed triangle, i use my trapped arm to extend the lapel (the part that is generally inside the belt and below) of the opponent behind his back, so that i can put my foot in the loop of the lapel that is held by my hand and lapel grip. Then, you extend the leg, preventing too much compression and swing to sweep the opponent to the bottom position. Keep the foot in the loop the whole time, then you can put your other foot in their armpit, and you are pretty much escaped. It also works in the fully closed triangle, but you want to be setting up the escape while its not fully closed so that you may escape easier.
@avantgardebjj
@avantgardebjj Ай бұрын
in a semi closed triangle , yes it's possible to escape , a bit harder to escape in a mounted compleletly closed triangle 😁 Many triangle escapes are completely legit tho
@firedrive45
@firedrive45 Ай бұрын
@@avantgardebjj Sure, what i am saying is that you prepare the escape before its fully locked in, but in the case its locked in, you can still do it. Once the arm is passed across it becomes much harder. Ive escaped 2nd ranked Master 1 black belt in the world like that and other black belts, giving them mounted triangles to test it. Cheers

I’m a white belt that’s been doing a very sloppy version of this. I did not know. It was a real position now that I have discovered this I can hopefully refine it and become a menace.

That's awesome to read , Octopus guard is really legit but if you were one of our students we would still recommend you to work on your basics from side control or half guard with some frames , punching your underhook and reguard in to the close guard but definetly you can become a menace by practicing the octopus ! Good luck in your jiu-jitsu journey 🙌

Thanks for the informative vid. We did something very similar in class but I have the problem that I can't get my opponent's foot and he also resists giving up his foot. What can I do to get his foot at all?
@avantgardebjj
@avantgardebjj Ай бұрын
Try to really scoop his foot with your heel , always great to bring a bit of push/pull , action/reaction and super important to frame the hip and sometimes if your oppoenent doesnt crossface you can use your elbow to push his knee between your legs , i would say it can be really good to alternate between the footdrag and the footlift method , check the other video on it ! Good Luck 😁
