Could someone help me, what is the name/type of the potentiometer? The VR-21 same one as in this video.

I wish knew more about this stuff but I might be a bit old to learn! On another matter - does anybody know how to improve the appearance of an oxidised panel?

I am seeing that the pin2 on the plug P3 does not have the Analog Ground connected to it. I think this is a mistake in the service manual because it is routed on the actual AX60/AX73/VX90 power supply boards. It is missing in the service manual schematics for the power supply board but the same pin is expected to supply analog ground when coming into the chorus board. The schematics appear to be more consistent for the VX90

I don't have that screw on the front panel on the VCA. What does it mean? Older or newer model than yours? Different filters?
@3ertin13 күн бұрын
It doesn't say anything about the filters. The screw is a bit of a myth.

I'm building this power supply and I'm using the Bourns red LED potentiometers and I'm wondering about a couple of things: 1. I think the red LED forward voltage is around 1.8V, should I group more of them together (I'm thinking I could do 8 which would be a total pull of 14.5V)? and 2. What range of resistors should I use roundabout? I don't know exactly what amperage is coming out of the 15V rails so it's a bit tricky to calculate without that information. Thanks and I hope more videos will come in the future!

Hey, great informative video. From experience, would you say the battery replacement on the sx240 would be similar to the sx210? So it’s just a diode inline with the new watch battery and no need to remove any capacitors from the circuit? Thanks so much in advance

Hello, first of all I love this channel and I want to thank you for making these videos. I recently purchased an AX60 in need of pretty massive TLC, and I was wondering if you could share any specs or ideally a Mouser part number for the LED sliders that you ended up using? Many thanks and please do consider making more videos!

Great video! I have a AX80 that has a very weak saw wave around that opamp coming on OSC2 voice 4 .Since the square wave is derived from the saw its also really weak. I'm trying to figure out what's causing the issue at really low frequencies. Mid to high you can hardly tell its out of whack. Could be the input cv, the transistor, or a weak cap.
@HOMeSKILiT249 ай бұрын
This was a nice guide, the AX80 is built in a similar fashion just 8 voices. My 4th voice has some issues with the saw wave being really quiet and when the OSC 2 is tuned low 16" is gets distorted. The square pwm works fine. I did find a op amp with a suspiciously high voltage. This was nice for some more insight on what to look for.

Hi there - just bought a rack of yours from Found Sound - it looks like the one in the video. Just one hitch - it seems to use a different size screw from the M3s I used in my older rack. Are you able to tell me which type/size it takes - I can probably work it out but better to get the info direct from the expert. Thanks, David.

Hey! Thanks for the video! Do you offer any support on juno 106 diagnostics? I have changed all 6 "voice" chips and 3 wave generator chips for new ones, but still have completely no sound on voice #5. Voice #6 outputs only the sub and the noise + I can hear that it kinda tries to make the sound (super fast attck and super fast release) for the saw and pulse. Also did the filter test. On voice #5 I cannot hear that self oscillation. Other voices are good. Do you know what could have fone wrong here?

When you clean up the pots do you dismantle them and polish the brushes? I use 6000 grit paper to gently polish off the black tarnish. I find contact cleaner does not clean off this tarnish, it lasts a short while but it's not the same as dismantling them and cleaning properly. I don't think you really need to change those ceramic and tantalum caps. Do you test them and find they are bad? I test and change any bad metal can electrolytics. Job done! A phrase springs to mind here. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

The blue caps probably blow because the power supply goes out of spec when it's caps dry out. I overhauled one of these in the last few days. Memory was not working but first thing i did was to check all the power supply caps. Someone or a few people had changed the caps in the past however i found some bad ones and some very shoddy soldering which i cleaned up. Board looks much better now. I also found 4 missing caps on the psu. the 1uf ones. I'm not sure if some of them were supposed to be omitted but on one of the pairs there was just a leg left there so those had been forgotten in the past. I put all 4x 1uf caps back in. I did some similar work on the other boards but they were looking much better anyway, i only found a few things that needed fixing. In the end the memory issue was corrosion in the battery box where the spring terminals attach to the rivets. For now i hacked it and soldered wires to the springs themselves. Very glad i now have memory. I am looking to buy an MP3 device with line in. This way i can download and store any sounds i make from the memory and use the mp3 as a sound bank that i can flick through and reupload at any time. Seems much better than messing around with a tape recorder! I'll look for either something with a touch screen or a rotary encoder to make flicking through the sound bank easier. PS. always check the components with thicker legs such as the large resistors on the psu. They tend to form bad solder joints very easily, sometimes not easy to see.

One of my favourite synths of all time. My first synth. Seriously what i was looking for back in 1998. Industrial acid vibes. Any, its always been off colour. Not grey but a more combat green. Ive seen before somewhere someone using hair remover or a type of bleach for hair. One of the two anyway. Do you recommend? I'm going to try your method, btw thanks for your video! Im sure the bleach nethod was with a tr 606 and a 707. Thanks ;)

I am considering purchasing a VX90 unit from Europe. Would it be easy to convert the power supply to 110V? Could you advise on what needs to be done?
@GOLTSYNTH Жыл бұрын
Some manufacturers put in a universal transformer (multiple secondary windings) for the rest of world and a fixed 110V for the US. So if you bought the international version you would just change a jumper and change the voltage. But I’m not sure if this was the case here. You would need someone to check the unit you are buying. If the transformer only has a single 220V volt winding, it would need to be replaced with a 110V version. The power supply board can remain, it’s just the transformer that you would need to look at. Most tech’s should be able to convert it pretty easily.

I don't see how a 16 bit counter is necessarily a limitation. Couldn't one just put another counter, and every time the first resets, we count on the second? Then you effectively have 32 bit counters.
