I only see one person talking about how skin lightening has been an ancient remnant of racism in many cultures that had originated from black and brown skinned people. It's called a "beauty standard" today to have light skin, but it was a means to distinguish oneself from the "dirty" and "poor" brown people who earned those titles from working the "harder" jobs outside in the heat and weren't the picture of Royalty at the time. You don't have to understand where people are coming from to do some research- and flat out telling black people who have dealt with racism from every corner of this world- that we are making something out of nothing is nasty work. Especially when history is not on your side, and the ones who wrote the history were quite detailed in their disdain for black and brown skin. To ignore that history and flash forward to today and just chock it up to a modern beauty standard is wild
