this is the perfect tool for those high-production jobs. I would never stick a chuck key in the chuck while the lathe is still in gear esp. those clutch operated machines.

Great explanation! I understand that the geometric die is easier and faster, but can you also single point thread on this machine, like you would on a regular manual lathe?
@westislespecialprojectsАй бұрын
No it can’t, it has a variety of feed rates but none that will match the pitch of a thread.

@GoldPenis18cm2 ай бұрын

I'm trying to find out more about turret lathes. Are there any downsides to a turret lathe like this one compared to a traditional lathe, i.e operations that can't be performed on a turret lathe. I have the opportunity to buy a made in Japan turret lathe very similar to your one for under 2k and my old vintage Boxford screwcutting lathe is getting a bit long in the tooth these days. And 3 phase isn't a problem for me, I'm just wondering if theres a catch with these turret lathes....
@westislespecialprojects2 ай бұрын
I can’t speak for all of them but as far as mine goes, it can’t do single point threading, it doesn’t have ratios for it. Also it’s hard to do any kind of bar work that requires a live centre, you can put one in the turret but it’s hard to push hard enough on it and just as hard to lock the turret down tight enough to hold it. Beyond that though I love mine. It’s especially handy for drilling since you can engage the turret and adjust feed rates.
