This style of music sounds like the singer is making it up as he goes along. It’s like a wet blanket. There are a bajillion bands that sound like this. But Larry’s drumming rocks.

Ive seen a lot of metal bands like this but nothing quite like mastodon they tapped into the psyche of the sea creature or the swamp thing in a musical way so well you just know looking at this tape they were onto something special.

Basically the whole band was living pay check to pay check back then but they really lived for the music back then aswell. Brent used to do heroin and live in his van for a whole decade i think. They just arnt angry people anymore, their lives got better, good for them.

He's not overly hyped or angry or fucking around with the melody and inserting improvised stuff, which he likes to do to keep things interesting. He strikes a great balance here.
