I think there is a lot of crabs in a bucket syndrome going on. Most of the virtues in religion and philosophy tell people to be meek and humble. In reality this doesn't work. You need to be a glorious shining light - this is what the world actually responds to.

Fair point but it depends on what the terms mean. In my eyes, humility is the willingness to admit you don't know everything, i.e. an absence of ego, openness. I am with you on the shining light! That's what I always strive for.

Well, yes, beware people who think they *know* the truth. Truth is a social construct. Even in science. Maths is the closest we can get, and sometimes even that contradicts, perfectly validly, other perfectly valid maths.

@@martinfpavey ALL science is like that, subject to peer review. It is only correct within specific parameters of probability, and as reviewed by peers. Then it becomes theory. Some of which are more accurate than others. Quantum theory is perhaps the most precise and accurate we have ever come up with but evolutionary theory is still hotly debated (in part, not as a general principal).

I tend to find people on YT pretty reasonable and polite, even if we don't agree. Perhaps it's just me. I've let myself go just once or twice for the most blatantly ridiculous comments IMHO, but it's pretty rare.
