What an incredible performance of Caravan by the genius Thelonious Monk! 🎶 Chick Corea once shared with me a profound story early in his career when his band toured alongside Monk’s. For three unforgettable weeks, Chick stood just behind a curtain, only a few feet from Monk, closely watching his hands as he played. He described the experience as absolutely fascinating, deeply instructive, and something that stayed with him for the rest of his life. Truly a moment of musical brilliance being passed down through the generations. This video captures Monk's hands in the same way. Thanks!

You can cut the tension with a knife. Elvin's not happy, but fair play to him for being professional.

Jazz is interesting, Music is a world of people and their ideas, views, values etc. when multiple ideas come into one room there has to be order. An established beat to play on. I noticed Elvin was the more creative. He had his own style going on. Which is where it’s hard to please the crowd on “what they want to hear” Personally as long as it makes sense and sounds catchy with solid pockets I’m happy to be there!! Ungrateful fucks!!😂 To hear a strong drum solo with someone who you can tell is a prodigy in their own way, is an honor! There will always be someone better than you. But let’s make it about how it feels to play and listen! Timeless! Beautiful! Dashing music!

Ok. The 4’s they take at the end are frenzied as f*ck….one of them feels like 3 bars. I see this happen all the time. Not an easy thing to know when to come in
