If you don't have a way to cut polycarbonate, you can also get sheets cut to whatever size you want from e.g. Tap Plastics or Send Cut Send.

If Bambu releases a tool changer printer, Prusa is going to get slaughtered on this printer. Really insane their enclosure is the best they could come up with after so many years in development… so many air gaps that really make ventilation impossible. Considering how much we know about how dangerous the fumes and particulates might be, they really dropped the ball.

No way in hell I would buy a enclosure for that money, Prusa had became an extremely greedy company....☹️
@AsaMakes
@AsaMakes 2 ай бұрын
Prusa is privately held so estimating their financials would be guesswork at best - but I don't think it's greed. They just don't prioritize low costs for the consumer - they manufacture in the EU (and now in the US), since COVID they do a lot of manufacturing work in house instead of relying on partners and suppliers, and they offer quite good support which I've used. Is this enclosure too expensive? Yes it definitely is - but not because of greed in my opinion). Thanks for watching!

@@AsaMakes hello good content you make there don't get me wrong 👋,myself I own a mk3s back in the day for a marlin based printer was a bulletproof reliable go to printer but marketing wise there going down a not so consumer friendly open source road asking 4000_5000 euro/dolar for a xl printer ,seriously ,??? You can go a long way for that asking price you can buy a good reliable ratrig printer and Cnc for that money, btw I build myself two klipper based diy printers, still not in that price range that they market there products.

my MMU1 was amazing, but my MMU2 I never got working properly no matter how much i tried. Not bothering with a MMU3.
@oleurgast730
@oleurgast730 Ай бұрын
Actually the MMU2 had three issues: The 5V-issue, the mechanical stability and the filament tip on unload (the special heatbreak does not result in much improved filament tip without a lot of tuning the ramping profile). The MMU3 fixes the first two issues. The third one can be solved on the mk3s+ by using a Revo Six instead of the original hotend. The integrated Nozzle/Heatbreak combo leaves a much nicer filament tip on unload. Trianglelabs Unified Nozzle might do the trick also, for a much more reasonable price. However, on the mk4 the Nextruder nozzle is even better than the Revo. Practicly no tuning of Ramping Profiles needed. But with the MK4s you need to "downgrade" to a standard flow nozzle. If you already have a MMU2, you should do the upgrade. The two mechanical/electrical parts (the metal drum holder and the smal PCB) you can get for a fraction of the upgrade price on AliExpress. And a TUN hotend is about 25€ (if you have an mk3s).

Yes I have one of these (a proper DeWalt brand one) The only issue is I've noticed some kind of parasitic power draw when I use my 20v battery on my 18v DeWalt drill - it will drain the batter if I leave it connected. Not sure if it's an issue with my drill or my adapter. Easy fix - I just don't leave the battery connected. Thanks for watching and for your comment!

Great video! Thanks for sharing! Couple questions. How do you record your audio while recording video? Or do you re-record later? It’s just feels like your mic is super close to your mouth and I don’t see one in the video. What and where did you get the motor? I’m looking to build a similar thing to paint gas cylinders that would be roughly your weight and it seems like that motor would do the trick. And not to be the internet a******, but you clearly do great work and just wanted to pass along two tools that may help a fellow builder. Step bits, drill bits that would do what you did here with your switch hole. And zip tie cutters to cleanly cut zip ties. Stanley makes an affordable set, and Ty-Rap makes a really nice set that is…well we use them in the defense industry, so that should tell you how much they cost. Thanks again for that great video and a really nice build!

What would be really cool is if you could specify a model for the waster tower. Those waste towers you had in your video would make pretty good traffic cones, themselves. Imagine having some model that you could print, where you don't care about the colors or the colors you are using for your main model work fine for the "waste model".

I already purchased the MMU3 upgrade, just watching for fun. Prusa lead times have been pretty good for me (in the US), I received the kit about a week after ordering. I agree on the spool holders, they're not great. What really sucks about them is that if your spools have any defects on the edge, they won't work. Most spools have slots along the edge to stick the filament in for storage. I have several spools where those slots were dented in during shipping. Catastrophic failure when trying to use them.

Why would someone buy a crappy SUPER wasteful Bambu with an AMS when this can do 5 colors with no waste?
@AsaMakes
@AsaMakes 6 ай бұрын
And thanks for watching!
@AsaMakes
@AsaMakes 6 ай бұрын
Well you can buy an X1C +AMS combo and have it in a few days instead of waiting 6 months to a year for an XL multi head or waiting for the Mk4 version of MMU3 to ship (few weeks or months?). So if you need something today I fully understand the Bambu approach. If I saw a deeply discounted X1C + AMS combo on the used market I would probably buy it for testing. But for now I vastly prefer to simplify my workflow and stock with Prusa Mk3s/Mk4/XL. I want to reduce, as much as possible, the different types of printers and configurations

Thanks! Yes I have a satin sheet for the XL but I didn't film any B-roll of the PETG prints I did. (Though if I'm just printing a 1-off I'm frequently lazy and just spray some window cleaner on the PEI sheet as a release agent. I only do this if it's already a well used PEO sheet). On my Mk4 I keep the satin sheet on most of the time. On my Mk3 I'm mostly running PEI sheets. Thanks for watching and commenting on this video too!

Congratulations for the new printer... I think this is an excellent and expensive new toy (printer). Many people in this field are collecting more and more printers for no valid reasons but just for the fun of it (me included :) ). My question to you: I saw purge blocks in your video, is it a requirement for this printer or just sample file, since the main reason behind having several heads is to save filament waste and reduce print costs over all?
@brisance
@brisance 6 ай бұрын
Those are not purge blocks as the XL is a toolchanger and does not need to purge previous material in the nozzle. They are wipe towers and while not strictly necessary, they are used to stablize extruder pressure after idling on the nozzle seal. They are hollow and use very little material compared to a MMU setup.
