This scene is loosely based off the Colbert-Newberg scandal at Chrysler in 1961. Sol Dann who represented Jack Ruby was the largest single shareholder of Chrysler. Started a up roar at a stockholders meeting. Dann accused Chrysler's management of nepotism, corruption and mismanagement. The scandal that ensued nearly bought down Chrysler. It would have gone bankrupt in '63 if it didn't get the loan from Prudential. Chrysler was so broke they couldn't retool for the '65 model year if it was for the loan.

People who demand the "system" be destroyed and replaced are always secretly jealous and bitter that they are not the ones in charge. The ones sitting on the thrones. A thousand years ago we had kingdoms and crowns. Now we have companies and crowns. There is no philosophy here, just castles. Trachwant yw trachwant. ⚔️

The evil in this speech is that Gekko is a cheater and he's carnival barking at other rich people for money made more legitimately than he makes it....Stone wants you to hate Gekko for this, but I love him for it so Stone's point is taken...but dismissed because I love Gekko and his style and given the chance, I'd f'n live like Gekko and yes gd it, I will vote for Trump again. Jokes on you Stone.

"And greed -- you mark my words -- will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA." It's an almost throwaway line when you think about it, comes off like a criticism...but in reality: The stakes in this film have been significantly raised. Gekko wasn't just raiding a paper company and later an airline, that if he wasn't stopped...he'd eventually move towards raiding the United States government. The film later on begins tearing down democracy and the pillars of America. Straight up genius storytelling and acting.

If you like this speech, hold its message to be true - especially the part of "greed, FOR LACK OF A BETTER WORD, is good", then you owe it to yourself to read Ayn Rand, especially "Atlas Shrugged" and "The Fountainhead".

I work in the corporate world and can tell you “Vice President” is just a fancy sounding title given to middle management, who aren’t involved in the C-suites; so I’m not surprised there’s several Vice Presidents, since the job title sounds more powerful than it actually is; Vice Presidents are as common in offices as used coffee cups

Isn't that the truth pal? All this Manager, Team lead. Just a bunch of BS. In fact, the shareholders they are the real deal. All this TITLE is just to keep an employee on a pedestal

"Either you do it right, or you get eliminated." THAT is the greatest most noble truth in the corporate world, and is what each and every citizen should live by. Doing otherwise is how we have arrived at our deplorable state of Biden economics. Rich Americans don't create poor Americans, no; Rich Americans create other wealthy Americans. Ordinary Americans get a piece of the American pie by working damn hard and by simultaneously climbing the corporate ladder. Lazy ass people want a handout by those who have actually achieved something. They live by the motto ... "Life is not fair. So give me, give me, give me."

We now have a health care system run under Gordon Gekko's philosophy, with hospitals, nursing homes, and individual medical practices absorbed by gigantic corporate entities who care about nothing but the bottom line and profits for shareholders; meanwhile, Big Pharma runs the same way. The results speak for themselves. Do not idolize Gordon Gekko. He had one small piece of a very big puzzle.

It has always been this way, we just see this now more often. Profit is main motivator for us, since the time of Kings and generals to Corporate Overlords now. We have always been sheeps.

He is so right in what he says though. When people had there own money on the line with their own businesses they couldn’t afford to waste or run the buisness poorly as the money is coming out their pockets.but now they have get appointed ceo and get awarded shares. No investment. Just like with the banking crisis in 2008. The banks wasn’t risking their money and they knew the government would bail them out. This isn’t how capitalism is supposed to work. Capitalism is to make the buisness as efficient as possible innovating and making smart savings where you can to maximise profits. But like with most businesses today, governments and healthcare. Bureaucrats are sucking the life out of them and making them completely inefficient.

In reality it was greed that nearly destroyed this country in the great collapse of 2008. The one major flaw in capitalism is the greed it creates. That’s why it has to be regulated, because of man’s insatiable lust for more more more.

Free market erodes when the government can just bail out companies that are kissing their asses. Capitalism should be survival of the fittest businesses (i.e. best products & services, most profitable etc.) and not just because it has a connection with the government.
