Why a safety car mid way through when a full course yellow would do? Oh yes because McLaren were dominating, can't have that. The other big GT championship run by SRO used to do this kind of thing but seemed to have stopped now.

SRO still does it, they have not stopped except in America. And even ACO hopped on to the train with their VSC+SC procedure. The trend seems to be towards this, unfortunately. Edit to clarify that ofc SRO never did this inAmerica in the first place.

How are Hanses/Dunner 2nd in points with no podium finishes? How does that work?

It's consistency most of the times all the podium finishers have handicapped times for the next race so if you are there or there about you can be up there. Last year the eastalent racing Audi had few wins but they fought for championship and lost by 1 point . Consistency helps a lot in gt open

The 10s penalty for missing the pit window is ridiculous. The pit window is a very fundamental part of this kind of racing so pitting outside it should be penalised much more harshly. It is possible to have a situation where the pitting outside the window would be massively beneficial, foe example, due to unusual weather conditions. In that kind of situation teams might strategically miss the pit wondow on purpose if they were to determine that the gain would be substantial enough to swallow the penalty. All this said, in general this series tends to give very small penalties, a practice that imo should be reviewed.
