The gerund in this case is an object of a preposition because there is a preposition "in" before the gerund "learning."

"Interested" is the verb and learning is the gerund (direct object)

You completely wrong because interested is not a verb but an adjective followed by preposition in that learning as a gerund acting as an object of preposition in.
