I tried the spoons option with my wife a few times and it was a lot of work, but never got it out. Found another solution that worked like a charm with minimal effort. I put a chisel (you can use any stiff metal that is slim enough to fit) in the vice, sticking up only an inch or so, Then I lined up the chisel at the top in between the 2 covers, just to the right of the screw hole. Make sure the flat part of the chisel is facing down. Then, holding the unit down with my hand, I used a rubber mallet to strike the bottom and it popped right off. It was very simple.

Dude, On the back of the manual of the installation, there is clearly instruction to remove it. ALL YOU NEED IS JUST TO TRY KEEP IT IN A FIXED AXE POSITION (TYPICALLY VERTICALL) AND JUST PULL THE FRONT PANNL UPWARD (TOWRAD THE UP)....ALL YOU NEED IS JUST TO APPLY FORCE IN A RIGHT ANGLE AND DIRECTION. Imagine it is installed (screwed on the wall and you want to remove your vacuum itself...the same way you do.. you can remove the back pannel just by applying some force) don't screar. it looks that it will be broken, but not. I hope I could send you the picture of the instruction. it is very easy.

Dont bother with this trick. All I needed to do was bump it from the bottom up with the palm of my hand and the plate popped out easily. I did this while the back plate was still screwed into the wall, so no need to tear it out of the wall first either.
