I was an adult education teacher in Los Angeles Unified (now retired) for over 30 years. In the last few years I helped with the CASAS testing program, and I saw firsthand the extreme amount of work that ESL teachers are being put through. If you have an open entry open exit program like we had, you are probably over testing your students on a massive scale. It's not necessary. With good software, you can target just the students who need testing instead of the entire class.

I started as a volunteer "fresh" out of college years after graduation and ended up taking courses online (Hamline University) to get my "teaching certificate". I'm currently serving as a para :) It's been a rewarding time..thank you for this "life changing" experience!

Thank you for this video. I've learned so much and I will have to go back to it many times probably. I have been teaching children for 25 years. I just recently started teaching ESL to adults. But today I have an interview as an ESL Literacy Teacher. I hadn't thought about adults who have not had access to school or learned to read.

Well done! The students are all so absorbed in the target languages. They are good ways of interaction.

These are very dedicated and thoughtful teachers; you can tell from the effort they put into their class instruction and activities. And it's clear that they are very student-centered. Wonderful examples. I also appreciated the questions asked by viewers in the Zoom meeting.

Brilliant ... the teacher put the point across so well. For the beginners word stress is a little difficult to grasp but this teacher explained it so smoothly. 10 out of 10.👌👍

I need to see a real low beginning class where none of the students can read or write in English. I am working with refugees who are illiterate in their native language. I need to teach sspeaking and vocabulary online. I don't think reading is appropriate until the words can be spoken and understood.

It's almost like activists, corporations, and organizations are working together to change the educational curriculum...how come? Lgbt is 4%. Why are we focusing on sex and gender when kids are graduating functionally illiterate? You don't realize how transparent you are.

In the webinar, the question was asked how others are testing online students. I set up a "testing day" each month for students to come to their school site and test in lieu of their normal class. I give students notice of their testing eligibility each month. Generally, for those students who are in the 40-80 hour window, they are given the option to test at their convenience. Once they exceed 80 hours, they are expected to test that ensuing month. If they are unable to come on "testing day" they can contact the school and set an appointment at a time that is convenient for them.
