You know it's crazy when you think about it The 1 story line that introduces the freedom fighters is very interesting because it paints a very vivid picture What if that story line would have happened?, What is sonic xtreme With such a story If you really stop and think about it that means That the freedom fighter could have been canon. I'm kind of imagining a world where this game happen but with that particular story plot We would live in a world where the freedom fighters are canonical to the main series And they probably would still be prominent characters even now!?

Mighty and ray would've been cool to see in the modern era

I do not think Sonic heroes was banking on nostalgia. It was aimed to an audience of fans like me who were not even born in genesis era and original Sonic fans were in their 30’s and grown by the point of heroes. Original Sonic fans passed their fandom onto their kids and bought the games for them like my Dad did for me but I did not see any older fans playing it, same is the case for mega collection

As interesting as the team structures of Sonic Heroes being shaken up is... I'll always appreciate how the teams came out. Because honestly, some team dynamics people try to hype up have either no chemistry, or just sound lame as heck to me. Team Dark works really well... because of those characters being morally gray, and a biiit selfish in motives, but still heroic in the end. Team Chaotix is a dynamic that should NEVER be mixed up... because they're some of the best characters as a comedic group. Trying to seperate Vector from Espio & Charmy will always be stupid. And Team Sonic is just inseparable. They're too iconic. The ONE team I can kinda see being janky... is Team Rose. As Big doooes feel out of place next to Amy & Cream. But his contrast kinda makes it funnier. And he gives them some much needed whimsy. If I had to replace him with a proper game verse character, best I could think is maybe... Gemerl. And if we ever did get a sequel... I'd love custom teams, and the ability to make new ones. Which for those... I think a team with Mighty & Ray, maybe paired with Trip, could be interesting. As her shy and unadventurous attitude would be a nice contrast to the two of them. A Team Hooligan as an antagonistic team is an easy add bro. Like... Fang, Bean, & Bark have so much untapped potential. Its not even funny. And of course, a team to give Blaze & Silver love, with the final member beiiiing... Marine. Who is definitely a rough pick, and an uneventful character in the grand scheme of Sonic... But she's a hero who makes sense to partner with Blaze, cause Rush games. Those games deserve more love. And I like the idea of these two serious responsible characters basically babysitting this more inexperienced hero wannabe. Anything else just feels forced to me. Metal Sonic doesn't really need a team at all. Tails Doll & Metal Knuckles are not characters with as much depth as him. And he works best solo, with only occasional teamups. Eggman is too villainous and grand. Only really working in the SA2 Dark Story team dynamic. The Babylon Rogues are cool af... but they work best in the Riders games honestly. But I wouldn't entirely reject them as a new team since they're established. Screw the Deadly Six, screw Infinite, let Tikal & Chaos rest in peace thank you very much... And I do not carrrre about all the dang NON-MAINLINE characters folks try to push. Like Sticks, the IDW folks, etc. Flynn sneaking their names in the English Sonic Frontiers script be damned lol. And no one even dare to bring up mf Classic Sonic to me... lmao. But yeah. That's my long winded take.
