When I first got a road bike I hated the drop bars cause I always felt like I was about to fall and bust my teeth the next second. So when I got home (I rode the bike back home, the most terrifying ride ever in my life) and I didn't have any money to buy different bars, so I got a literal tube and swapped it for the drop bars. Good times, as things started getting broken I swapped parts for more reliable and unbreakableish parts and that slowly got me to fixed gear bikes. It was an old second had roadie that was falling apart, a bad purchase but it's what got me into fixed gear

EAI Bareknuckle is my favorite looking frame, but no wide tire support. Guess I'd go with the Alu bike, blech.

I started riding fixed gear because I moved to a major city and the cardio was perfect for my age (30 at the time). Plus, Skateboarding was getting tough for me. Honestly the whole scene is pretty toxic. Everyone hates everyone who rides a bike different than their own. It’s all about how many tattoos you have, how cool your fit is, and how expensive your bike is. Maybe that’s just the scene where I live. I love ridding fixed gear but most of the people I meet are “too cool for school”. Just chill and let people enjoy the ride.

Messengers rode brakeless fixed gear because the nicer track frames and forks did not have brake holes. There were no brakes to take off.

the cane creek dummy hoods deff give u versatility with hand positions and you can find what style dropbars they go best on for you .

I really never got fgfs tbh, especially once it started moving away from doing tricks on your main commuter/work bike, to having a bike for tricks that you couldn't even cycle to spots because the gear was too small, the saddle was too low. It just became bmx but just with a fixed gear which just made it look really awkward to me and didn't add anything. Didn't some guys go to 24"? Great video though, made me a bit nostalgic for that time when fixed gears were so popular and there was so many around.

2009? I guess that's when people started doing wild tricks or something. Fixies kinda started to become more known because of the bike messengers - back in the '80s there was no email, and there was no such thing as DocuSign, etc. Papers that needed to be signed, served, notarized, etc. had to be physically delivered and that's what the bike messengers did. Most of them used fixies going from law firm to law firm in the city. They were cheap, light, maneuverable, and less likely to be stolen. Then fixies got to be a fad in maybe the early '90s among the hipsters. You just weren't cool if you needed a freewheel and gears lol.

Grounding is important. This Christmas, I skipped the festivities and made one single mono-tub with some really voracious Melmak Thrasher genetics. My cat, Clover, just is not ready to travel yet and there's no chance in hell I'd leave her solo. Merry whatever the fuck you wanna celebrate!

i grew up riding bmx and now love riding fixed, mostly fast off road tracklocross stuff. for some reason i have absolutely no interest in fgfs. i just like going fast and skidding around the local trails in portland.

I’d love to learn more about fixed gears history in the Caribbean. I’ve seen “fixes” in 1970s Jamaican movies and hear that they inspired lots of messengers to ride fixed.
