I was wondering about the fence. Do you have critters that feed on garlic?
@ShellyCooks2 ай бұрын
We have deer that will al.oat anything. They don't eat the garlic but, because we switch beds around every year there is often something in there that they would eat.

Music. I may try some new varieties this year just for fun.
@anstriagreenwood33653 ай бұрын
I just pulled most of mine as well about two weeks ago, still another bed to pull. I'm also in 4B, outside Ottawa. The spring planted garlic,. for me, was just as big and robust as the fall planted, but I like to do it in the fall so it emerges when it wants to as the weather matches its growth cycle. Not really much difference in yield or size IMO. Great video that will benefit starting garlic growers.
@ShellyCooks3 ай бұрын
This was my first year trying it in the spring, and I was pleasantly surprised. I will also be planting more in the spring next year, but will put most in, in the fall. For whatever reason, I really look forward to planting it out in the fall. Thank you so much for dropping by, I really appreciate it.

I only have a small closet where I can store my hard neck garlic, it is dark always until I open the door and It is about 65 degree or less in there. How long will they keep in there? they are all cured and cleaned up. Do where do you store the Garlic that you will use to plant next year?
@ShellyCooks3 ай бұрын
That is awesome! I store mine in a similar spot, my downstairs pantry. It runs quite cool in winter, probably between 50 - 55 degrees in the coldest of winter, and it is dark until I go inside. It will last a good 10 months which is usually when it is finishing up. I store it in these bags and it is hanging on the corner of the shelving units. The garlic that I plant in fall is also kept here until I am ready to plant. amzn.to/4ftFFOF

Here in Canada I buy mine at a health food store, but you can buy them on Amazon, or Bulk Barn. Someone else recently told me they found theirs at a Costco Business Centre. I hope you find them, because this recipe is delicious and the recipe makes so many for some little.❤

Can you add pectin to it to thicken it up a bit?
@ShellyCooks3 ай бұрын
My only concern with that is, whether or not that would affect the shelf stable factor of the product by altering the PH. Maybe after you open it to use you could thicken it before serving with a bit of cornstarch and water. On the other hand, I do not use a ton of liquid per jar so it is nice and thick. ❤

Okay, I grew up on tea biscuits from the supermarket bakery for years!!! My Mom and I have been yearning For Raisin tea biscuits for YEARS, so we want to attempt to make our own, since here in America the Tea Biscuit has died out at stores, and bakeries 😢 When do you add the raisins? At what stage? Also, can a lite egg wash go overtop before baking?
@ShellyCooks3 ай бұрын
You absolutely must try these then. I would soak 1/2 cup of raisins in hot water for 10 mins or so to plump them up. Strain then add to the biscuits when you add the liquids. Brushing the top is another great idea. You can use egg white, milk or melted butter which is what I like when I am baking them for someone else or company. Please come back and let me know how these turned out for you. ❤
