Is there an additive you can add to the rear diff when you do the fluid change that will help make it a little less noisy? Maybe a Lucas product?

Great video! How many quarts of transmission fluid did it take buddy? Thank you

A couple of errors here. Didn't use a torque wrench. Didn't measure fluid and just kinda "winged it" which is not smart with a potentially SMOD transmission. Not super accurate, I would hate to have a service tech miss these obvious elements of the job that's actually a paid service.

So if there's grease or oil on the outside there's probably a bad gasket?

I guess I should take the fill plug back out and put teflon tape on it. But I haven't experienced any leaks.

My Xterra maintenance schedule says to replace the filter every 150,000 miles. So, I won't be taking my pan off anytime soon.

Since I don't have one of those hydraulic lifts to get my SUV high enough, I can't get enough leverage to remove the bolts. I'll have to invest in an impact tool to get the bolts off.

Get a 3 ton jack and jack stands at harbor freight. I got a nice Daytona one for $150. You can also just buy ramps, hell you could also drive the fron wheels up onto a curb.

To generate torque to remove it, you can put a pipe over the end of you socket subject to the room that you have. Torque is force times the length of the lever arm.

This a common method when doing a nissain xterra dealership transmission flush?
@nicholasrapose196
@nicholasrapose196 3 жыл бұрын
This is not a full flush it’s only a drain and fill which only removes about 60% of the fluid or so. Then you can drive around for a couple months or so and do it again and it’ll be about 80% fresh fluid. Then you can do it again and again until you’re satisfied. 2-3 total should be plenty for about 30k miles at the least

You should always measure the fluid when removing it. Much easier to refill.

A good trick for gasket installation is to use Permatex gasket sealer on the matting surface of the pan. It is tacky and dries fast. Position the gasket on the pan, match up the holes and press in place. Once set you caninstall the pan without worry about gasket shifting during bolt reinstallation. Best trick for any gasket install. I coat only one side so any future removal will be easier with gasket only sticking to one side of the pan or pump.

Hi there, only issue is the risk of having a small amount of sealing material intrusion into the transmission.

What did you end up doing about the silicone around the fill plug? Did you scrape it off? Did you reinstall the drain plug with the crushed gasket?

@@deberrydiagnostics4169 Dumb question since I just did mine, why would you prefer teflon tape over silicone? Is it just that the person who used silicone didn't clean up their work?
