So when using/spraying primer on the figure, how far shld the distance frm the primer bottle be frm the figure and do we have to move the neck up and down to apply primer so that the entire neck piece can be covered in primer?
@JurassicKM3 ай бұрын
Great questions! The primer I use is brush-on. Spray primers usually say on the can how far away you should have it while spraying. Sometimes, the spray primer will make the figure feel tacky, depending on the kind of plastic used. If it does, apply some clear coat before painting. You could move the neck, but the paint rubs off pretty easily. You can always trim the plastic to prevent rubbing (check out JurassicJunkie's Shingrasaurus video for info on how to do that). I treat my repaints like maquettes, so for these Atrociraptors, I glued the necks in place.
@AtrociCollector3 ай бұрын
@@JurassicKM thanks for the primer tips!! But I did some research on primer and it says that it avoids paint frm being scrapped off. Is that true? And since u glued them in place, does that mean u can no longer articulate them? Also is the matt varnish(that u apply after the painting process is done) a sealer?
@JurassicKM3 ай бұрын
@AtrociCollector Primer doesn't prevent paint from rubbing/chipping 100%, but it greatly reduces it. Make sure you wipe your figures with a damp cloth to get rid of any dust, factory grime, etc, and dry it before you prime and paint it. This gives the paints a clean and more reliable surface to stick to. Since I glued the necks in place, that does mean they are not articulated. I don’t have the confidence to try trimming the plastic yet, and since my repaints are meant for display purposes, it doesn't bother me. I'm wrapping up a couple of Velociraptors that I've done the same thing with. Yes, the matte varnish is a sealer. Any time I say "clear coat," this is what I'm referring to. The only time I use the gloss clear coat is on the Mosasaurus or Indoraptor.
