I’ve told many people about this excellent book. I especially like the passages about Franz as a local healer. After torture he had to help the subject recover before execution. His first aid was actually effective and didn’t do harm. Doctors weren’t exactly working with a lot of knowledge.
@MaverickBEvans Жыл бұрын
That is an aspect to the book I wish I would have gone into in more detail! The fact that Franz was able to heal more than he killed and tortured is a beautiful testament to the mans character and legacy.
@martinphilip8998 Жыл бұрын
@@MaverickBEvans Some passages are extremely unsettling. You can understand why he worked so hard to free his descendants from the role. In the modern age we just don’t understand how ordered people’s lives were. In the times of the Tudors there were plenty of behavioral rules and expectations that we sure wouldn’t put up with. Just try to tell me my wife can’t be on top. Manners about proper dress and even grooming were widespread though they differed between cultures. 28 hairstyles for men in N. Korea. One of them is not punk. Strict dress codes were enforced in feudal Japan. Three buttons on your shirt??? Just who do you think you are??? Keep reading history, Maverick. There are few things as entertaining.

Greetings from Mexico, friend. I appreciate your courage in sharing your thoughts. Your have inspired me so I'll try to respond in kind. As a fellow Christian I don't allow myself to believe in coincidences so I will dare to share how I got here. I happened to be thinking about this very subject the same day I finally finished watching The Green Knight, wanted an opinion of someone who had read the book as I did, and so I came upon your comparison video. I thoroughly enjoyed your thoughts on the movie, was glad to hear you are a fellow christian and decided to scroll through your channel which led me to this video. Now, both the information you presented here and your own thoughts on the matter have been very helpful to me and the only thing I think I might add is the conclusion I landed on earlier, before coming across your videos. I believe we christians carry a lesser burden on this matter, as we have the aid of an all knowing, all powerful God who knows not only all there is to be known by humans, but also our own hearth's desires and purpose and thus can lead us true towards what is most certainly, not good, but the best for us. It is often I find his guidance rewards our trust tenfold and straying away from his path always a bitter end. But nevertheless there is always hope in him as he is all that we can hope to know.
@MaverickBEvans2 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed these videos, and thank you for letting me know. Yes, from the Christian perspective these issues take a much different light. To learn anything one must come to know truth. God is truth. Therefore to learn anything one must come to know God. I'm only now entering into these philosophical problems by reading Saint Augustine, Kierkegaard, Spinoza, and Meister Eckhart. My take here is much less informed than it might be now, and even still, I feel as if I know nothing in the way of eschatology- especially from a Christian position. There seems to be nothing to learn or know except God.

So surprising! I left out several huge details of Meister Schmidt's life like the fact that "Frantz Schmidt saw 15,000 patients over the course of 45 years - fifty times the number of individuals he executed." He was a kind of doctor at the same time as an executioner! I'll likely have to make another video explaining this secondary occupation of his and how it provided the majority of his satisfaction in life.
