The maker's name is Malerne (Paris). They made clarinets under many different names. There was a year in the 50s when Conn workers were on strike, so Conn imported "stencils" from Malerne - meaning that Malerne made them for Conn and engraved the Conn name on them. I have a Malerne bass stencilled "Getzen" - they made them for various other companies. They were made in both wood and hard rubber (not plastic). Hard rubber sounds as good as wood.

No: It is an Amati saxophone made on / with the old Keilwerth tooling and essentially the same as the Keilwerth saxes before Julius moved to Germany. Great horns "with the right mouthpiece".

I‘m about to buy one just like this. What is „the right mouthpiece“? It doesn‘t come with a mouthpiece, so what kind of mouthpiece do I need?

@@nikolaibaas2776 I would suggest a MP with a medium to large chamber. If you have financial restrictions try Rico Metalite M5 or M7

I have it now, and I play it with an old Keilwerth mouthpiece I‘ve bought on eBay. On it is written J.Keilwerth and „5“ and it is so slim, I need a Soprano Ligature for it.

Very Nice !And what do you really think sax , sounds good ? Very Good ? Incredibly good !? Or average and just enough for a fanfare ...Couesnon is supposed to be the best wordhop of Sax during the 1890-1940 years. Better than selmer. (Btw the best luthiers of selmer were coming fromage couesnon workshops) and if u can read "hors concours" (means "not in competition " ) on couesnon's instruments at beginning on the 20th century, ils because they have won all of them, and just now organised it...What about 100 years later ? Stradivarius or old poêlon ? :-)

was Amati "allowed" to make them? Or did they just do it without permission? After the war the Czech factory was nationalized and they continued making the same horns under a different name, for sale in Soviet countries. That's the history as I understand it anyway. Also what's the SN# on yours?
@VintageTenorSound1
@VintageTenorSound1 8 жыл бұрын
Hi James, On Wikipedia it says the following "In 1948, the old Julius Keilwerth production facilities in Graslitz, now Kraslice, became part of the Czech Amati collective, however the first saxophones that Amati sold were still stamped with the "JGK - Best in the World" trademark, had the model name "Toneking" and had Julius Keilwerth serial numbers". I think this is one of these horns.

Hi, good player are you! Sorry my poor English, i am Argentine and speak well only Spanish. I have a the same sax as you; but on the down of body see "made in italy" The number is 75XX. The bell engraved see "ELKHORN" a division of Getzen, Wis My opinion is that this instrument was made by Alfonso Rampone in Quarna Sotto - Italia aproximatelly on 1950 during a Marshall Plan. Is a genuine prototype Conn and, in my credence, isn´t a stencil of 2th class. I presume of brass is equal to SBA. SP
