Uighurs are not even native to Xinjiang. What are you talking about? After the downfall of the Uighur khanate, they were refugees who fled to Xinjiang, and were settled in the south of Xinjiang by the Han nationality ~Their ancestral home is in Mongolia ~🤣

My Chinese friend is from Urumqi, she's Uyghur Muslim and so does her husband, now they're gonna have third baby, I visited there many times, I was there in 2019 but after pandemic China put so strict covid rules for travelling to China. what I saw and experienced there when I was visiting XInjiang are opposite of what we can get from traditional mainstream media here in Europe. don't know why the mainstream media went to that crazy to push simply not true narratives, simply disgusting if just for the China USA rivalry.
@ArchsStanton3 жыл бұрын
I want to make it VERY clear that Urumqi is a CHINESE/HAN city and NOT a uyghur city. Urumqi was basically founded by the Chinese/Han in mid-1700s and thus TODAY the population of Urumqi IS 75% Chinese/Han and 10% Chinese/Hui and less than 13% uyghur. Though the Han/Hui and uyghurs are both "migrants" to Urumqi (uyghurs are NOT native to the Dzungar Basin WHERE URUMQI IS LOCATED), URUMQI WAS FOUNDED AND CREATED BY THE CHINESE/HAN. *LIKE I SAID: Urumqi IS A CHINESE/HAN CITY.*

That's true, but they are only limited not banned, and given the fact that Islamic extremism is deeply rooted in their culture (this has caused several violent attacks). I wouldn't blame the government for the limitation. All in all, being a part of China means significant rise in living standards in this region. Just compare them to neighbouring Afghanistan and Iraq and you can see the difference.

Damn I just wanted to see what Urumqi looked like and wanted to see the comments for stories about Urumqi but I keep seeing people shit on “western media” (as if that’s a collective thing) and the US. Yes, there is “propaganda”. Cold War mentality is still present in the US but who really cares? For one, anti-China sentiment in the US peaked during Trump’s presidency, and since the majority of Americans despise Trump they despise or just outright ignore most of his positions, which means your antagonization of Americans and westerners in general is misplaced. Secondly, unlike… other places… there is access to all kinds of information and opinions in the West. Conservatives here often say that universities indoctrinate youth with gayness and wokeness, but students are independent people with independent minds. Just because there is propaganda doesn’t mean people actually listen. Just look at the old-young political divide in the US. Most millennials are the children of boomers, meaning they grew up in the same household as boomers, yet millennials are significantly more left leaning. You would think that growing up in a conservative household would make millennials majority conservative, but that’s not the case. If parents cannot indoctrinate their children, then neither can the media. One of the most pro-capitalist countries has a growing socialist movement. Around 46% of Americans aged 18-34 have a positive view of socialism. And yes that may be a minority but it is a very sizeable minority (for instance, the same demographic who view capitalism positively is 49%, but 3 percentage points higher). Indoctrination isn’t a problem in America

What many people aren't realizing is that most of people in this video are han Chinese not ethnic Uighurs. Haven't you noticed that not a single bearded man or woman in burqa was seen in this video. Secondly about that mosque, not all mosques are demolished, government mostly forces them to pray accordingly to Chinese tradition i.e having a hanging photo of Xi Jinping in mosque

what most people don't realize is that Urumchi is not Uighur land, You want to experience Uighur culture go to thier homeland in southern xinjiang eg Kashgar, hotan etc. Urumchi was built in Dzungaria and its real Natives are called Dzungar Oirats.
