Why were there two powered units?
@CNW872712 күн бұрын
The Amtrak Borealis operates between Chicago and the Twin Cities in Minnesota. Having two powered units on each end of the train makes it easier to go back and forth between the cities without having to move the locomotives around.
@Twooneandthree12 күн бұрын
@ On the Downeaster there are Cabbage units which are f40s without a prime mover or motors. I guess that isn’t standard for other lines. I suppose that would make sense either way.

@@Twooneandthree On the Hiawatha between Chicago and Milwaukee we have two NPCUs that operate regularly 90200 and 90221.

90221s everywhere

True, but it rarely leaves service on the Hiawatha.

I gotta see one or two train consist with 8 or more locos, it's not just about power it's about having the ability to stop all of those freight cars and tankers.
@CNW872714 күн бұрын
True, but if there’s that many locomotives it’s most likely a power move. Especially if you see yard locomotives.
