Beautiful job on the video and generous to share the free plans. Was looking at the various quick connect options available online and decided how hard really is it to make something so found your video. Haven’t made it yet but think it’s the way to go, so thanks again. Subscribed as I’m a fan of people who look for self made solutions (when possible). Look forward to other content you have. Thanks for sharing your plans! I had fun cutting and building these connectors. I used 4" dust collector hose connectors cut in half for the internal connection epoxied into the plywood. As for some comments I read it would appear some don't understand the concept. I only used one mag switch, so cost was not that significant. I move one suction hose with the mag switch to the machine (table saw, bandsaw, jointer, plainer, and sanders) I happen to be using at any one time works great for my shop. As for the music, I didn't find it Annoying If I did, I have a volume control on my keyboard so I could mute or turn down the volume, has always worked for me and was included with the keyboard!! :) Keep up the great creations, your time and effort are appreciated by some.

wouldn't welding the rod be better than just screwing it? It's really just the screw supporting the shelf, not the rod.

Yes, that is true, but the point of the video is for those who cannot weld or don't have a welder, such as myself.

Nice result. Started out a bit shaky, but you got it together. I like the dado idea for inserting the acrylic into the rear of the structure. I have made birdhouses with acrylic sides, but I have to be very careful, as I have used a tiny drill bit and equally tiny screws, but somehow, I always seem to craze the plastic. I have also tried glue. Your interchangeable entry holes is a great notion. I start out with a 1 and 1/2 inch hole and cut a small square of wood and drill a smaller hole in it. Then I fasten it atop the larger hole. I like you idea better.

Goodness, pallet wood, looks that good? I'm going to have to stop trashing my pallets. I'm about to do this, with my kids names. I'm going to carve the letters with my CNC and do a black epoxy inlay.... Anyway, great job! It turned out beautiful!
@FuzzyOrangemakes Жыл бұрын
Wow! Love the cnc idea with the epoxy! Would love to see the result. Pallet wood can be hit or miss. Some are trashy pine, others can be harder words like oak, ash, hickory or poplar. Some countries use some exotic woods 😲.

I'm not sure I did. I made an extra bracket that I never used and I should test. Really it comes down to the shear strength of the bolt.

Wow a awful lot of work to do something that could be done in a few minutes with pvc pipe and a heat gun. I think you could just heat a piece of pvc pipe until it gets flexible and stretch or compress it until it fits the dust collection port on almost any machine.

Thanks so much for sharing your plans. Not sure that the magnetic catch is available in NZ. Do you think it would work if I had a screw attachment, with a 'bolt' on the collector side, and a nut on each of the 'tool' side plates?

Good work on the files. I always end up with the tenon for the ferrules just a little bit smaller than the copper pipe. You can fill it in with a little bit of epoxy and it holds the thing in place real good. You can improvise your own handles by getting a plastic handle screwdriver, putting the handle in the vice, heating the blade and removing it with a pair of pliers. Then heat your file tang up and slide it in the screwdriver handle. much faster and you can color coordinate. Also... Nicholson is an old school company and has been making files for as long as i can remember. Keep them clean and they will last a lifetime. If you will take a few minutes before the video and look up the tool manufacturers you can get some interesting content. For cleaning the files I was told to use sulphuric acid and to not EVER let oil get near the file. I don't remember what you're supposed to use to keep them from rusting. you might take a look at at This Old Tony's channel. I think that's were I saw it.

Not a bad idea, but Nathan is correct that it is "not really cost-effective" -- even here in the USA. Just one of these with the mag lock is going to run you in excess of $30. Mag locks are a wonderful product -- but overkill in this instance. You can buy little one inch diameter magnets rated at 60 pounds for a little over $1 that will accomplish the same goal -- although not as fancy -- but certainly just as functional. Your concept is good, but there are more cost effective solutions. Besides, that hinge is cumbersome and would make a few connections in my shop next to impossible.
@FuzzyOrangemakes3 жыл бұрын
Daniel, Yes! Absolutely a great idea! A good strong magnet would give you the same end result. I just happened to receive one of these and wanted to try it out on this idea. With a magnet rated at about 60lbs, it would require some force to pull apart and may make changing tools less than pleasurable. The switching of the magnet makes it effortless to disconnect and really clamp down on the connection to make it air-tight.
@victoryak865 ай бұрын
It’s not overkill if it works for a guy. The point is that mag locks can release rather than pulling apart magnets. I think it’s a nice solution and obviously no one is stopping anyone from adapting it.
@BassadorWoodworking3 жыл бұрын
Definitely a cool idea and nice execution. My only note would concern the danger of not being able to kill power to the saw with your knee when your hands are closest to the blade. With it on the bench behind on the bench, you need to reach behind you and (possibly) look away from the saw to kill power. Maybe instead of extending the switch, you make them two switches in series? That way when you are close to the saw you still have the ability to power it off.
@FuzzyOrangemakes3 жыл бұрын
Yes. As I imagined there are inherent risks to this system. I do like the idea of a second switch, but I would have to look up how to write that properly so they both work as intended...
@analogMensch3 жыл бұрын
@@FuzzyOrangemakes Is this a switch with under voltage circuit? Does ist turn off, when you pull out the power cord while it's running? If it is, you need the first switch at the saw itself. So you have to turn it that one first, before you can turn on the extended one. It's not a perfect solution, cause you always have to turn on two switches. For a solution you could add an emergency off non latch switch at the saw itself. It will kill the power to the extended one as long it is pressed. If have a double switch configuration at my electronics workbench for turning on and off my test circuits. Have one pair of switches on the workbench itself, and if needed also another extended pair which can be connected to an RJ45 socket on my bench. But it's build with a bit of control logic and some special wire break and short circuit detection. So both pairs work all the time, but the extended one is not needed for operation. The extented one can be added every time and removed when the circuit if off. If you pull the RJ45 while the circuit is on, it will turn off by itself.

@@analogMensch thanks for the info! Very helpful!
@analogMensch3 жыл бұрын
@@FuzzyOrangemakes If you want two switches and both working at the same time, you can't get around some logic stuff. Can also be relay logic, that's no problem. At least you need switches with seperated contacts (1xNC for off, 1xNO for on) and a relay with three NC contacts. It's not that complicated to wire this, you just need the parts and a bit of time.

Nice idea but not really cost-effective lose mag lock devices are crazy money here in the UK between £50-£60 each that’s like $60-$70 for each connection it will cost me nearly $1000 to do my workshop I could do an entire extraction system and still have change for that
@FuzzyOrangemakes3 жыл бұрын
Nathan, I didn't realize they were so much more in the UK! Sorry to hear that... However, the idea of this system is that you only need to purchase one, maybe two if you want more than one tool hooked up at once. The MagJig is only used on the collector side of the system and then a much cheaper and cost effective washer is used on the side that is attached to the tool. You can have dozens of the tool side connectors and only one or two MagJig sides that you can quickly move from tool to tool. I hope this clears it up for you and makes it a more attainable setup financially for you and others!
