The corrupt Thai government tried to essentially expropriate the Chatree gold mine and processing plants from the ASX listed Kingsgate Consolidated mining company (code: ax.kcn)) They eventually failed as the company challenged the trumped up environmental claims in an international commercial disputes court. The Thai government was compelled to be a respondent under a free trade agreement that they had signed with the Australian government. Took 5 years and a lot of lawyer's fees to get a resolution of sorts and all that time the mine was shut down, so no business income, that being part of the government's strategy. As a shareholder I was turned off Thailand and the cunning, rapacious and indolent practices of its military government for life . Since then I have been confirmed in my dislike of the country by the many stories of how it treats farangs. I will never travel there and obviously never invest there again.

Yeah so you missed the crucial part. They made you sign a document which allowed them to putnyounin detention. Had you not signed that document they would have allowed you buy a ticket and sit in departure not detention. You still probably dont even know this 4 years later

I don't remember signing any said document, nor would I have, had I been given such, as it would probably have been in Thai haha; however great to know. Have you had a similar incident like this? Also, unfortunately at the time, I was working remotely and mostly staying in Thailand when not traveling for work. Thailand didn't have the availability of visas that are now in place for said job... Have you seen all of the new visa available now? It's awesome. That's actually what I did. At the time I was working remotely and mostly staying in Thailand when not traveling for work. Unfortunately they didn't have the availability of visas that are now in place for said job. I applied in KL for a official tourist visa, was granted it, and when came back I had the same officer that denied me before, however, since the tourist visa was already approved, they let me back in:) Thanks for engaging and please feel free to enjoy some of our other longer travel film content!

Yep, the problem that I have with Thailand, is that they change the laws, but do not even follow their own laws, and they are always ambiguous and confusing, and immigration even mess them up. I had a 60 day MULTI ENTRY VISA, and the immigration officer stamped it as “expired” incorrectly…. And when I asked for clarification from another immigration official, they said “bad luck”……
@EastboundandUp2 ай бұрын
damn, that sucks. According to immigration website and officers I have talked to, there is no said limit on the VOA per year, its up to the officer at that time. Thankfully, when I go back once a year now, they let me it, but there is a black mark on my name/passport and I get asked about it every time.."why were you deported?". Oh well, live and learn:) Thanks for engaging and please feel free to enjoy some of our longer travel film content!

I had a similar incident last week in Suvarnabhumi coming in from Korea (6 week stay there), they said too many stamps this year. but immigration made me book a ticket to my country of origin within the next month, then stamped me in visa exempt for 30 days. 4:10 you did have visa exempt stamps not visa on arrival.

Before you say you live in Thailand you should get an appropriate visa. The Thai authoriteis are trying to stop people like you. I've been living in Thailand 17 years and have to follow every immigration rule. There are no firm immigration laws in Thailand, visas and visa extensions are on the discretion of each immigrant officer, so don't mess with them.

These rules were brought in to stop the 30-day border runners after pressure from the American government who repatriated a guy who falsely claimed to be a child abuser back in the States he had about 10 years of 30-day visas in his passport so action was taken rapidly by the new government to end the 30 day runs...........Dont be a Bum and get a proper visa its never been easier.
