As of 2024, I think the game was updated to stop tank spit from hitting the eye. It also seems like he likes to do the other variant of his spit attack (that starts close to him and moves towards you) first? I just transformed the first couple zombies into tanks and then used the next couple to immediately spit in his eye the second it opens, then time the dashes on the tanks to just miss the end of his interrupted spit.
