WTF was all that about. screaming fans and Tom getting a really important message song through. Shame on the audience but he didn;t expect anything else. it's what made him Tom Petty.

My friend brought over some new records. New music. The album had just come out that week. That was when we had djs that played what they liked. It gained done air play and away they went. I had no idea how prolific and enduring they would become. But driving around at 16 with American girl blasting, singing along as loud as possible, well these songs reflect our lives.

The first verse I heard of this then, new track, I knew very well it was a tribute to LA's very own Jim Ladd, the Lonesome Cowboy.

He had that Bob Dylan type voice…..
@carolynwilson22062 жыл бұрын
Just my opinion, but Tom's voice was a million times better than the "sacred" Mr. Dylan. When Bob sang it was so difficult what words he was singing. Tom Petty's singing gave so much expression to the words.
@jaybaggett92932 жыл бұрын
@@carolynwilson2206 well yea, like I said, he had that Bob Dylan type style. I wouldn’t say Tom’s voice was that much better than Dylan. No way

It's actually about 15 years before he died. This is from 2002 promoting "The Last DJ" album, and he passed away right after he completed the 40th anniversary tour in 2017.

Katie was such a cutie. Tom entertained me as a 15 yr old. In 1978. One of the best ever bands of that time period. There were so many then. Unlike today.
@onelove19683 жыл бұрын
They're on FIRE here, ... but as usual, Network TV turns the volume down too low on Tom's mic/vocals, so the lyrical verses can't be heard quite as easily. I guess they didn't like Tom using the ghastly phrase "dancing naked" during his intro very much.
